Local man killed in Clifton Street house fire
FOLLANSBEE — A man was killed in a fire that destroyed his Clifton Street home early Tuesday.
City Fire Chief Larry Rea confirmed the man, a senior citizen whose name he didn’t release, was the sole resident of the two-story home, which was a complete loss.
Rea said a neighbor called 911 at about 12:40 a.m. after smelling smoke from the blaze.
He said the body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, and the scene remains under investigation, but no foul play is suspected at this time.
Rea said firefighters from the city and Hooverson Heights were able to contain it in about 30 minutes, but it had already spread quickly, causing the roof to collapse.
