The election also decided the renewal of a five-year, five-mill levy for the Toronto City School District.
A total of 527 voters, or 62.07 percent, supported the levy, while 322 voters, or 37.93 percent, opposed it.
The levy is slated to generate $1,633,569 per year for five years, for the district’s operations.
Toronto Superintendent of Schools Maureen Taggart said of the outcome, “The renewal levy provides stability for our district and allows us to continue offering excellent educational opportunities without increasing taxes. We’re thankful that the Toronto community understands how important this funding is to maintaining our day-to-day operations.”
She continued, “On behalf of our staff and students, I want to thank everyone who voted in favor of it. We’re proud to serve a community that values education and invests in the future of its children.”
Toronto Council President Frank McEwen, City Treasurer James Orsini and Toronto school board members Julie Ault, Randy Henry and William Liddick were unopposed in their bid for re-election.
According to the Jefferson County Board of Elections, 1,503 Toronto voters turned out for the election.
