Bove, Schoolcraft elected to Indian Creek school board

WINTERSVILLE — Voters in the Indian Creek Local School District named two to its five-member board and approved the renewal of a five-year levy to support the school district’s operations.

Emerging winners of the nonpartisan race were Dan Bove Jr., who received 2,808 votes, or 41.58 percent, and challenger Brianne Schoolcraft, who received 2,292 votes, or 33.94 percent.

Dr. Rachel Gilman, another challenger, received 1,654 votes, or 24.49 percent.

All totals are unofficial until ballots are canvassed.

Of the victory, Bove said, “It is truly an honor to be elected to a sixth term on the board of education. I look forward to continuing the momentum we’ve built together and to working collaboratively to meet the financial and performance-based challenges ahead.”

He added, “Our goals remain clear — to stay at the forefront of evolving technology, expand and enrich our performing arts programs, and ensure that Indian Creek continues to be something our entire community can be proud of. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the students, staff, and families of Indian Creek.”

Schoolcraft said she’s also very grateful to the voters who supported her.

“The public support has been amazing- the people coming together from each end of the district to support me,” she said.

Schoolcraft added, “I look forward to working with the school board and helping the school district to grow.”

A total of 2,325 voters, or 51.19 percent, supported renewal of the 7.9-mill levy, while 2,217 voters, or 48.81 percent, opposed it.

The levy is slated to generate about $3.28 million, or $629,795 per year, for operational expenses such as staffing, utilities, buses, curriculum and programming.

In response to the outcome, Indian Creek School Superintendent T.C. Chappelear said, “The passage of this levy is an important step for Indian Creek in continuing to deliver the great services and programs that our students need and deserve”

“I appreciate the commitment that the residents of this school district have made to providing a great education for the students of this community. The administration and staff here will continue to work hard to meet the needs of the students and to make our community proud to be a part of the Indian Creek School District community,” he said.
