Baker, Peeler re-elected to Mingo Junction Council

MINGO JUNCTION — A majority of voters in Mingo Junction chose two incumbents from a pool of five candidates to represent them on Village Council in Tuesday’s general election.

Emerging winners of the race were Mark Baker, who received 374 votes, or 33.27 percent, and Adam Peeler, who received 282 votes, or 25.09 percent.

Also vying for the seats were: Christopher Horner, who received 255 votes, or 22.69 percent, and two write-in candidates, John Wright Sr. and William Andress Jr., who together netted a total of 213 votes, or 18.95 percent.

All totals are unofficial until ballots are canvassed.

Baker said, “I’m appreciative of Mingo residents believing in me and giving me another term. I love my town. God bless Mingo Junction.”

It will be Baker’s second term on council, and he said, “It’s nice when you get another term because things you’ve been working on, you get to keep doing.”

He said he looks forward to working with the mayor and other council members to improve the village.

Peeler, who will enter his fourth term on Jan. 1, said, I’m pleased and thankful for all of the people who showed their support. I consider it to be an honor to be on council.”

He conceded council has faced some “interesting times” in recent months, alluding to the ongoing investigation of the village’s fire chief.

But he said while waiting for that to play out, he and council need to focus on improvements to the village, including upgrades to the water treatment system.

Also appearing on ballots was Village Treasurer John McDonald, who was unopposed.

A total of 1,124 voters in Mingo Junction turned out for the election, according to the Jefferson County Board of Elections.
