Friday night crash under investigation

NEW CUMBERLAND — The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is investigating following a two-vehicle crash in the county Friday.

According to information released Saturday by the department, the Hancock County 911 Center received several calls of a two-vehicle crash, with injuries, at approximately 7 p.m. Friday on state Route 8, just north of the New Cumberland city limits.

The initial investigation indicates a Kia sedan was traveling south, went across the center line, and struck a Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling in the northbound lane.

The driver of the Kia, as well as a juvenile passenger, were airlifted for medical treatment to Pittsburgh, while the driver of the Jeep and a juvenile passenger were transported by ambulance to WVU Medicine Weirton Medical Center.

Additional details of the crash, as well as potential criminal charges, are pending investigation by the sheriff’s department.

In addition to sheriff’s deputies, the New Cumberland Police Department, Chester Police Department, New Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department, New Manchester Volunteer Fire Department, Lifeteam Ambulance, RESQRS EMS and East Liverpool Fire Department responded to the crash.
