Buckeye Local announces Class of 2025
YORKVILLE — Buckeye Local High School will hold its 2025 commencement at 6:30 p.m. today at the World War II Stadium. In the event of inclement weather, it will be moved inside the high school.
The Class of 2025’s valedictorians are Adam Blackwell, Austin Blake, Shane Griffith, Emma McHugh and Sydney Snyder. Graduating with highest honors are Lena Anderson, Lydia Boyd, Alyssa Dailey, Aidin Hosenfeld, Brady Kalman, Alex McDiffitt, Cara Motto, Adison Muldrew, Desiree Ruzek and Autumn Wharton.
The son of Ryan and Krista Blackwell, and Jennifer Figurski, Blackwell is a member of the National Honor Society, 2025 Executive Committee, Foreign Language Club, Merit Scholars, Student Council and the marching and concert bands.
He was a four-year letterer in golf, treasurer of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and volunteered at town clean-ups, blood drives and other activities. Adam is a four-year letterman of the golf team and the Panther Marching and Concert Band.
Outside school, Blackwell is a member of Glen Robbins Presbyterian Church, participated on a travel hockey team for 10 years and was an official for the USA Hockey League.
He plans to pursue a degree in international business and minor in sports management at Ohio State University.
The son of Jesse Blake of Mount Pleasant, Blake is a member of the National Honors Society, Foreign Language Club and Merit Scholars, lettered in track and field and was a varsity member of the Academic Challenge team.
Outside school, Blake did volunteer work while working at a local restaurant.
He plans to study psychology at Ohio University.
The son of Steve and Melissa Griffith of Harrisville, Griffith was on the football and track teams, and in the National Honors Society, Merit Scholars, Foreign Language Club and Varsity Board.
Involved in the Windy Ridge 4-H Club for 12 years, he was Junior County Fair Prince in 2021, a camp counselor and junior fair board member and participated in numerous community service projects.
Griffith plans to study agronomy and dairy science at Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute and eventually take over his parents’ dairy farm.
The daughter of Wendy and Scott McHugh of Brilliant, McHugh lettered in academics all 4 years of high school and was secretary of the National Honor Society and a member of the Book Club, Science Club, Foreign Language Club, Student Council, Merit Scholars and Class Executive Committee.
Outside school, she participated in bowling and dance and volunteered at Wheeling Hospital, food pantries and park clean-ups.
She plans to continue her studies in a science program at Ohio State University, where she has been named to the honors program.
The daughter of Nathan and Lauren Snyder of Rayland, Snyder is vice president of the National Honor Society and co-president of the Foreign Language Club and a member of the Art Club and Science Club.
She has been a member of the Wheeling Symphony Youth Orchestra for eight years and was named first chair in the violin section, playing twice with the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra.
Snyder plans to major in nursing at Ohio University Eastern and become a pediatric nurse.
The daughter of Lisa and Caleb Anderson, Anderson plans to major in nursing at West Virginia Northern Community College.
The daughter of Kimberly and Robert Boyd, Boyd plans to major in early childhood and elementary education at Ohio University Eastern.
The daughter of Stephanie and James Daily, Daily plans to major in recreation management at Ohio University.
The son of Brea and Chad Hosenfield, Hosenfield plans to major in education at West Liberty University.
The son of Amanda Dunfee and Jim Kalman, Kalman plans to major in pharmacy at Ohio University Eastern.
The son of Joyce Bradley and Chris McDiffitt, McDiffitt plans to study heating ventilation and air conditioning engineering at Belmont College.
The daughter of Lee Ann and James Motto, Motto plans to study business at Ohio University Eastern.
The daughter of Brittany Muldrew, Muldrew plans to major in psychology at Ohio State University.
The daughter of Joyce and Shawn Starosciak and Lacy and Tony Clegg, Ruzek will further her studies at Ohio University Eastern.
The daughter of Terri and Gary Wharton, Wharton will attend the Trinity School of Nursing.
