Art association show continues

STEUBENVILLE — The Steubenville Art Association held its fourth-annual “Show Us Your Stuff” grand opening ceremony at the Visitor Center in downtown Steubenville on March 7.

This show invites members of the public to display their art alongside the works of Steubenville Art Association members. Unlike most art shows, it is managed and judged by students learning the process. The event includes artwork by adults, teens, and children under 13.

Between 200 and 300 visitors attended the grand opening. The art will be on display until April 2 during Visitor Center hours, generally 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. Admission is free.

Adult division winners were: First, Denise Gordon, “Power”; second, Bob Watson, “Green Shutters”; third, Debra Kimball, “Lioness”; fourth, Dianna Garner, “Leo the Lion”; fifth, Jeanne D’Anniballe, “Ben’s Best Friend”; and sixth, Steve Opet, “Got Milk.” Adult honorable mentions went to “Mystery Woman” by Jeana Parr, “King in Yellow” by Gerald VanScyoc, and “Spring on the Farm” by Joyce Beatty.

Mayor’s choice for adults went to Christina Collins for “I Got You,” and Visitor Center choice went to Kateria Poulin for “The Call.”

Teen division winners were: First, Colton Dobson, “David”; second, Kaylin McNally, “Parrot”; third, Nancy Gunderson, “Seamese.” Honorable mentions were Brianna Paice for “Steamboat Willie,” Mallory Jenkins for “Every Man Right in His Own Eyes,” and Tessa Rusnak for “Monotone Self-Portrait.”

Mayor’s choice for teens was Tessa Rusnak for “Green Sea Turtle,” and Visitor Center choice was “America 250” by Avery Kittle.

Debra Kimball oversaw the children’s division. Each child received a certificate and an Oscar figurine.

The association extended thanks to the show committee, including Alysia Basluke, Tammy Rogers, James Clum, Jeana Parr, and Tina Newman, with special recognition for Pat Biesecker’s contributions and Jane Watson for organizing art intake. Members who baked cookies and brought food were also acknowledged.

The next art show will be in September at Youngstown State University-Steubenville. While “Show Us Your Stuff” celebrates the community of visual arts, the 77th-annual Steubenville Art Association Show in September will be more formal, featuring a professional judge, monetary awards, and a stronger prospectus. Entry is open to all, regardless of SAA membership.
