Calling attention
Red Ribbon Week, a nationwide campaign to keep children and adults drug and alcohol free, will again be celebrated in Jefferson County. The United Prevention Partnership, Jefferson County Youth Coalition and the Phoenix Program organized this year’s observance, aimed at getting residents of all ages to “demonstrate their commitment to drug-free lifestyles” by wearing and displaying red ribbons during the weeklong campaign. Showing their support for Red Ribbon Week, which will run Wednesday through Oct. 31, are, from left, Jefferson County Commissioner Eric Timmons; Hope Bonomo, Phoenix Program treatment liaison; Kevin Schrader, Phoenix Program officer; Andrew Rohde, Catholic Central High School Youth Coalition president; Lindsey Murgatroyd, Family Recovery Center youth prevention coordinator; Laura Trifonoff, Phoenix Program director; Allison Boston, Jefferson County Drug Free Communities program director, and Commissioner Dave Maple. — Linda Harris
