Community fireworks displays scheduled around the area include:

• Wintersville: Saturday, 10 p.m., Jefferson County Airpark

• Steubenville: July 4, dusk, Berkman Amphitheater in Fort Steuben Park

• Wellsburg: July 4, dusk, Betty Carr Recreation Site

• Chester, July 4, 10 p.m. to be set off behind A.T. Allison Elementary

• Weirton: July 5, dusk, following Wheeling Symphony concert, Weirton Event Center

• Tappan Lake: July 5, 10 p.m.

• Wells Township, July 6, dusk, near the football field

• Toronto, July 6, 10 p.m.

• Adena: July 6, dusk

• Cadiz: July 13, dusk

• Follansbee: July 14, 10 p.m., near Follansbee Community House

Farmers market opens Thursday

STEUBENVILLE — Summer is here and it’s time to enjoy the fresh fruits and vegetables offered at the Downtown Steubenville Farmers Market that opens Thursday on the corner of South Fourth and South Streets.

There will be a number of vendors selling a variety of vegetables, baked goods, jams, jellies, pickles, honey and crafts.

“Some vendors like Russell’s Produce will have a wide selection of fruits and vegetables on Thursday, while others like Angiuli Farms and Woolf Farms will be arriving later in the season,” explained Mary Snyder of the Steubenville Visitor Center, which manages the market. “We will have many who were here last year like June Gardner (baklava, pizzelles and other fancy baked goods), Sweets by a Baker (fudge, cookies and more), Hippy Honey (honey and tie-dyed shirts and leggings) and Lynn’s Goodies and Gifts (pies, zucchini bread, brownies, pickles, home canned fruits and veggies.).

The market will operate from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Thursday through the first week of November. For information, call the Visitor Center at (740) 283-4935.

Indian Creek sets special meeting

WINTERSVILLE — The Indian Creek Local School District board of education will hold a special meeting at 7 a.m. Friday.

The meeting will be held in the administrative-board office, in the high school, 100 Park Drive.
