Steubenville spring cleanup program begins

STEUBENVILLE — Spring clean-up will begin less than a month from now in Steubenville.

Sanitation Superintendent Bob Baird said the special collections will be held on Fridays and will begin April 19 for residents with “active and current utility accounts.”

Collections are limited to household items only and will take place on the scheduled dates only, he said. All items are to be placed at the curb where regular trash collection occurs each week no sooner than the night prior to the scheduled collection.

Once the schedule is completed, Baird said there will be no return trips.

Scheduled pickups are:

• Friday: All streets on Labelle View.

• April 26: All streets on Pleasant Heights.

• May 3: All streets from Market Street to the South City Limit, from Spring Avenue to state Route 7 and including Lincoln Heights. Also, the North End (all streets from Alikanna to Market Street and from 11th Street to state Route 7.

• May 10: All streets on the north side of Sunset Boulevard from Brady Avenue to the city’s west limits (including Brady Avenue.)

• May 17: All streets on the south side of Sunset Boulevard from McCauslen Manor to the city’s western limits.

Baird said the service is not available to those who do not have an active, current sanitation account, anyone “found to be abusing the program” or putting prohibited items curbside.

Those prohibited items include: Tires of any kind; electronic waste (computers, televisions, etc.); freon gases (from refrigerators, freezers, air conditioning units, dehumidifiers and the like); hazardous wastes, including petrochemicals like fuels, oils, solvents and paint; or construction materials, including shingles, plaster or drywall, concrete block and bricks.
