Sycamore Center succeeding for September
STEUBENVILLE — The Sycamore Youth Center looked back at the summer and announced some of what the children who attend the organization has done prior to the start of autumn.
This year, there were 150 children who were blessed during the nonprofit organization’s Summer Fun Camp. The 150 campers enjoyed Bible teachings, STEM lessons, taking part in art projects, enjoying recreational activities and laughing with one another throughout the week-long camp.
According to Executive Director Bobbyjon Bauman, more than 50 volunteers gave joyfully, creating a Christ-centered week where children grew in faith and discovered their gifts. With stories of Joseph’s perseverance and Jesus’ parables, campers left with hope and direction, Bauman said.
Other summer events included the Summer Mobile Food Pantry, with Sycamore Corps students packing 200 food bags for children in need.
The students were living out the scripture of Matthew 25:35: “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.”
“The teenagers embody compassion in action,” Bauman stated. The community’s support equips them to step up and ensure that no child goes hungry. Every bag represents hope, dignity and love, he added.
“Together, we can continue being the hands and feet of Jesus to the most vulnerable in our community,” he said.
Other summer events saw students helping at the Urban Mission Ministries annual Back-to-School Bash. Sycamore Corps students painted faces and handed out school supplies, sharing snacks with hundreds of local children.
Their service brought hope as families began the school year, officials commented.
“These teens gained leadership skills while blessing others,” Bauman concluded. “The kids received joy and encouragement. Together, we can keep creating spaces where children feel valued, equipped and loved at life’s important milestones.”
