DEERSVILLE — “Steel Magnolias” will be coming to the Deersville Community Theater Oct. 23-26, sharing the story about a group of southern women in the fictional northwest Louisiana parish of Chinquapin.

Led under the direction of Holly Brindley and assisted by Cheryl Besozzi, “Steel Magnolias” takes place during the late 1980s at the in-home beauty shop of Truvy Jones. Jones’ character will be portrayed by Christine Sentz, an actor at the theater.

During the opening moments, Truvy hires a “new to town” young stylist named Annelle Dupuy, portrayed by Carrie Rogers. The pair combine to do the hair of Shelby Eatenton, a young nurse marrying the love of her life that day; and her mother, M’Lynn Eatenton, a mental health counselor. The mother-daughter duo is portrayed by a newcomer to the Deersville stage, Jayda Rogers, and veteran actor Laura Peters.

Clairee Belcher, widow of the town’s mayor, will be portrayed by Grace Stetzik, who has been in numerous productions at the theater. Belcher soon enters the shop to share her words of wisdom with the others, only to be followed by the local grouch, Ouiser Bourdreaux — portrayed by veteran actor Penny Clark. The cast includes the voice of Aaron Holmes as the dee jay in the production.

Performances will take place at 7 p.m. Oct. 23-25 and at 2 p.m. Oct. 26. A meal will be available two hours prior to each show, with the menu to be announced. The cost is by donation only. Tickets can be purchased by visiting eventbrite.com/e/1758584847619.
