WEIRTON — St. Joseph and St. Paul’s parishes held a Vacation Bible School at St. Paul’s Catholic School in Weirton.

Organizers of the Bible study held a penny race during the week. The money raised was split between Catholic Charities and the Community Bread Basket.

Carrie Oliver Shultz, organizer of the St. Paul’s Bible Study, presented Marilyn Charnie, board president of the CBB, with a check.

Those with the nonprofit exclaimed they “greatly appreciate this donation and all donations,” as the CBB relies on contributions from local businesses, individuals and grants to pay its expenses.

There are two part-time employees who are paid and approximately 30 volunteers running the agency which provides food and other items for more than 250 families every month.

The number of families in need of assistance continues to grow, officials said.

The CBB is a faith-based, nonprofit organization founded by member churches. St. Joseph’s and St. Paul’s are a part of that original group.

The CBB welcomes all churches to be a part of its organization. Anyone wishing to make a monetary donation, can mail a check to: Community Bread Basket, P.O. Box 154, Weirton, WV 26062.

Food donations can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the basement level of the CBB, located at 3545 Rear Pennsylvania Ave.

Through the help of the community, the Community Bread Basket can continue to do God’s work and provide support to those in need, officials commented.

The nonprofit organization stated it would like to thank all of the children and their parents who attended the Vacation Bible School and donated to the organization to help people throughout the community in need of assistance.
