Jay Householder has been declared the winner of this year’s Weirton Independence Day Pie Baking Contest. Householder explained he was taught how to make pies from his mother, Mary Householder. Mary had won many contests during the Fourth of July event prior to her death in 2019. The mother and son have entered several contests together throughout the years. The final contest took place in 2017. In that particular event, Householder’s mom had won first place and he had come in third. Householder believes his mother would be proud of his first-place win.
