Members of the philanthropic organization All Saints Weirton Philoptochos Society, donated more than $5,500 to various local charities throughout Brooke and Hancock counties. Among those who received a donation by the group was the Weirton Christian Center, which was awarded $1,500. Director Kim Weaver, left, accepted the contribution from Philoptochos President Mary Kohelis. The society’s donations were made possible, in large part, by the generosity of church members who prepared baked goods to sell, and by community residents who supported those sales held at Thanksgiving and Easter. The money collected from the sale of twist cookies, baklava, Easter bread and other Greek pastries, provides the funding to help those less fortunate. The society thanked everyone who has participated in these activities through the years.
