WELLSBURG — Current and former Brooke High School students produced a variety of artwork using an assortment of media for this year’s Student and Alumni Art Show held on May 14. The event took place in the corridor of the school’s wellness center, being partly funded through a grant that was secured by Linda Abercrombie from the Brooke County Parent-Teacher-Student Association.

Students in Jason Zimmer’s marketing class produced mugs which were given as prizes to the show’s winners. The top finishers in the alumni division included Logan Frame, first place, “Embarking on a New Journey;” Landen Frame, second place, “Man Eater;” and Katie Anderson, third place, “Animula.” Honorable mention went to Michele Mahan for “Among the Nocturnal Forest,” Jewell Cox for”Pondering Deer” and Brandon Michael Rexroad for “Green Clown.” Winners in the student division were Anneliese Schupbach for “Serenity,” first place; Ava Rohr for “In the Woods,” second place; and Deedra Groves for “Me,” third place. Honorable mention went to Avi Varlas for “Heart Strings,” Derek Ray for “Long Forgotten,” and Sophia Wilkerson for “Living Art.” Sara Walden Roark and Kelly Lumbatis serve as the school’s art instructors.

Roark exclaimed, “My heart was so full after seeing the wellness area come to life with color, creativity and so many familiar faces. From thoughtful paintings to wild sculptures, every piece had a story. And the talent on display? Wow! I couldn’t be prouder of our current students and our amazing alumni who came back to share their work. It was like a big creative family reunion.”

Roark thanked all who stopped by to see the art and showed their support for the local artists.
