NEW CUMBERLAND — Members of the New Cumberland Lions Club met May 23 to fundraisers, donations and celebrations.
President Dorothy Hawkes called the meeting to order after which Lion Rick Tinsky offered a prayer. Lion Bob McNeil led the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes were accepted as read and the treasurer’s report was placed on file for audit.
It was announced international dues will see an increase during the next few years, but state dues are not changing. International dues will see an increase of $3 for the 2023-24 year, a $2 increase for the 2024-25 year and a $2 increase for the 2025-26 year.
Members were informed a letter of thanks was received from Camp Kno Koma, a diabetes camp in West Virginia. The letter expressed appreciation for the recent donation from the club, saying it will aid with the summer camp for children who have diabetes.
“The summer camp provides children with diabetes a place where they can learn about how to live with diabetes, see other children with diabetes and just have fun and be themselves,” it was written. The website for those wanting to learn more about the camp can be found online at campknokoma.com.
The New Cumberland Lion’s Club also discussed their first pulled-pork fundraiser, held May 27. Officials stated the pork used in its fundraisers is provided by Hale’s High Street Kitchen at Franco’s.
Another pulled-pork takeout is planned for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 1 in the parking lot of the Swaney Memorial Library in New Cumberland. It was noted a pulled-pork sandwich will be sold for $7; sides, including potato salad and baked beans, will sell for $1 each; and bottled water and soda are $1.
Dates for the remainder of the summer pulled-pork takeouts are: July 29 and Aug. 26, Swaney Memorial Library parking lot; and Sept. 23-24, Riverfest on River Avenue in New Cumberland.
All proceeds are used to fund the Lions Club project.
Lion Tom Stiles stated he has had to cancel this spring’s Adopt-A-Highway project because there were two dates scheduled to hold the event, but both ended up being rained out. He said he will notify the Ohio Department of Health. Stiles said club will resume the Adopt-A-Highway clean-up in the fall.
