Police reports

Jefferson County Sheriff

Scammers lurking: A Toronto resident said someone claiming to be with CitiBank Credit Card Service tried to scam him, Wednesday. He said the scammer had his identifying information and told him someone had attempted to purchase four guns and have them shipped to a New Jersey address” and was going to “transfer the call to the FBI.” He said the purported FBI agent lost interest and hung up when he asked for a name. The victim said both scammers had his identifying information.

Upset: A Mingo Junction caller told deputies he and another man were being threatened by a neighbor, Wednesday. He said the neighbor didn’t get along with an individual who was at his home due to an issue several years earlier. Deputies said the message he showed them was not threatening, and when they talked to the neighbor he told them all he’d said was he “didn’t appreciate him having the man involved in an incident years earlier” at his home. The caller was advised to block his neighbor’s texts.

Reported: A Toronto area resident reported hearing shots fired in the vicinity of Mellwood Drive, Tuesday. Deputies couldn’t locate anyone firing a weapon.

Steubenville Police

Major issues: A West Adams Street resident was “screaming at a male who was on the porch,” Wednesday. After police separated them, the male said the argument started “when (his female companion) accused him of being unfaithful to her.” They both said it never became physical, but the woman accused her companion “of being verbally abusive.” Police advised them to avoid contact and told the female what she has to do to evict him.

Smoker’s fog: A disturbance was reported in the 1100 block of Lincoln Avenue, Wednesday. Police said the disturbance “was over a mother and daughter arguing over the last cigarette.” They said there was no physical altercation, and no crimes were committed, so the two were advised to “settle down and go about their day.”

Errant owner: A resident in the 300 block of Westwood Drive said a neighbor’s dog was running loose, so she put it on a leash to keep it from being hit by a car, Wednesday. Police said she knew the owner’s name and where he lives and reported the dog “is always running loose.” He didn’t come to the door when police knocked and when they had dispatchers call him, told them that “(the dog’s owner) didn’t live there and (he) didn’t even know where Steubenville was.” A neighbor told them the man does, in fact, live there and that he’d been told to just “put the dog inside the residence” when he finds it running loose. Police advised him to speak to animal control “in regards to the constant problem.”

Money snatched: A Kroger customer said she put her purse down and forgot to pick it up, Wednesday. By the time she realized her mistake and returned for it, a thief had stolen the $585 in cash that had been in it.

Booked: Shannon L. White, 48, 952 Sherman Ave., warrant alleging intimidation, held without bond, Wednesday.

Cited: Abigail R. Garcia, 25, St. Johns, Fla., and Mahan Naviwala, 28, Brentwood, N.Y., speeding (school zone); Isaiah Fletcher, 32, 328 Union Ave., Steubenville, expired plates.
