Steubenville Police

Thoughtless: A Scioto Drive resident said a neighbor is intentionally blowing grass clippings and dirt in her yard when he mows, Tuesday. She said when she tried talking about it, he “told her that he was not going to change how he mowed the lawn.” Police tried to speak with him but were unsuccessful.

Rode away: Employees at Walmart said a man took the bus to the mall and “immediately walked to the bike section (and) walked the bike out of the store without paying for it,” Tuesday. The bike is valued at about $200.

In the way: A caller reported a man “passed out in the doorway” of a building in the 400 block of Market Street, Tuesday. Police recognized him, and after awakening him told him he cannot sleep there. He left the property.

Wind damage: A large metal object was reported in the roadway in the 200 block of Ravine Street rear, Tuesday. Police said a “very large exhaust vent” that had blown off the AEP building was in the street. AEP employees helped move it.

Cat fight: A disturbance in a residence in the 100 block of Welday Avenue was blamed on cat food, Tuesday. Police said a male told them his mother “gave the wrong food to some of the cats,” which sparked an argument. He said there was no physical altercation, which his mother confirmed. They were told to “avoid each other for the evening.”

Cautious: Police were asked to make sure no one was living on the back porch of a property on Jeannette Avenue, Tuesday. Police said there were no signs someone had taken up residence at the property.

Jefferson County Sheriff

Problem: A Bergholz resident told deputies she found a basketball-sized sinkhole in the yard of her county Road 75 home, April 26. She said she’s concerned the hole will get bigger and cause problems with the road. ODOT was informed.

Different stories: A Richmond woman reported being assaulted by her boyfriend, April 25. She said he was upset because she referred to one of his friends as a “crackhead” and began yelling at her and directing profanities toward her. She said she told him to leave while she had his mother on the phone and claims he “picked up a box in the living room and threw it on the ground,” frightening her so she hit him in the face with her phone, causing a laceration. She said he responded by “punching her in the back of the head multiple times after pushing her onto the couch,” and left once he realized she called for help. She does not want to press charges but does think he needs counseling. He said after she called his cousin a “crackhead” they argued and he was trying to gather his things to leave when she “bumped into him.” He said he didn’t think anything of it but then she slapped his face a couple times.
