Slipped up: A resident in the 800 block of Brady Avenue told police someone driving a yellow pickup and hauling “a large amount of scrap” in the bed lost a large glass table top in the street, Wednesday. The glass shattered, and the resident told police the driver “stopped and exited to look at the damage, then (got) back in his truck and fled” so the crew of a city sanitation truck that was in the area cleaned the mess up. Police later spotted a yellow pickup in the 200 block of S. 7th Street “with numerous pieces of scrap in the bed.” Police said the driver, Nellie Gay Carroll, 50, 1036 Main St., Apt. 4, Rayland, was cited for having an insecure load after admitting “her vehicle was the one involved.”
Chicken scratch: A Linda Way resident told police she’s tired of her neighbor’s chickens coming into her yard, damaging her flower beds and leaving droppings on her back deck. She said the neighbor “lets (them) loose and they come onto (her) property” and that it’s been an ongoing problem. She showed police video and photos of the chickens on her property. Police were unable to speak with the neighbor but said she’d been warned before so they filled out a citation for having an animal at large to Barbara S. Strachan, 2937 Linda Way, and asked the prosecutor to mail it to her.
Disturbing: Callers in the 600 block of Lawson Avenue were concerned by a man “pacing back and forth in front of (a) residence and yelling loudly,” Wednesday. When they spoke with the man he told them he was having “a spiritual dilemma” but did not need assistance.
Asking for help: A man without a home flagged police down in the 100 block of S. 3rd Street to say he needs help, Wednesday. He said he “fell on hard times and was homeless and was not receiving any assistance from any places in the city that were supposed to help him.” He told them he was “rock bottom and no longer wished to live.” He was taken to the hospital for mental health assistance.
One-track mind: A Euclid Avenue resident told police she saw “several individuals in ski masks near her back porch,” Wednesday. They said she was unable to describe them and couldn’t say why they’d be on her property but said she thinks her neighbor was involved, though when they checked police said no one was at home at the neighbor’s house. Police said they tried to get information from the complainant’s daughter but her mother “kept talking over her.”
Drunk: A disturbance in the 700 block of Oakmont turned out to be two people arguing, Wednesday. Police said the woman, who was intoxicated, started damaging property. Once she calmed down police had her gather her things and took her to a family member’s home.
Unsheltered: Callers complained people were sleeping in the gangway of a building in the 400 block of Adams Street, Wednesday. Police said the two people they found were told to move on.
Loud: A couple in the 1400 block of State Street was arguing, Wednesday. They told police it was just a verbal disagreement, and the male said he was going to leave to calm the situation.
Booked: Guy Blancato III, 31, 2541 Chestnut St., Steubenville, failure to comply, Wednesday.
Summons: Mary Eddy, 36, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Steubenville, possession of drug paraphernalia, Thursday. Eddy allegedly had two used glass pipes in her purse, police said.
