Steubenville Police

A warrant has been issued for a Weirton man who allegedly fled police trying to pull him over to serve felony warrants already issued for his arrest, Monday. Police report the driver ignored their emergency lights and siren, eventually pulling over at the intersection of Ridge Avenue at McDowell and as soon as the officer exited his cruiser said he “took off at a high rate of speed,” nearly striking another vehicle in the intersection, “reaching speeds in excess of 70 miles per hour” on Woodlawn Road. Police said numerous cars on the road and several individuals were running to get away as he passed, and when he reached University Boulevard they reported he “went into oncoming traffic and fled through a construction zone with numerous workers present,” traveling into West Virginia.

Fisticuffs: Two juveniles fought on a SVRTA bus in the 700 block of Lawson Avenue, Monday. One of them fled before police arrived but the other remained on the bus. The child who stayed did not need medical treatment. Police said information related to the incident was forwarded to the juvenile division.

Outer limits: Employees at a Hollywood Avenue business said a man was “possibly under the influence inside the store,” Monday. They told police the man was “talking to himself and acting strange” and they wanted him removed from the property, but when police looked for him he was gone.

Loud mouth: Callers reported a man yelling in the 600 block of Lawson Avenue, Monday. Police were checking the area when a bystander identified the yeller and when they talked to him, he said “he was yelling because he was upset but did not need any assistance.”

Deep dive: A man was caught going through a dumpster behind a property in the 100 block of North Fifth Street, Monday. Police said the man told them he lost his backpack and was looking for it, so they explained to him he had gone on private property and the owners wanted him to leave.

Homecoming: A Market Street resident who had been hospitalized said she returned home only to discover someone stole her blood thinner and Gabapentin, Monday.

Dog whisperer: A Wilma Avenue resident complained his neighbor’s two dogs bark at him anytime he’s in his backyard, Monday. Police said the dogs weren’t barking when they arrived until the caller stood by the property line provoking them, though he insisted they “constantly bark and are not well trained” and he’s fearful they will get loose. The owner of the dogs said the caller is “relentlessly calling on his dogs” and told police he’s well aware of the laws pertaining to them and said they “generally are not a nuisance.” Police told the caller the dogs “are going to bark as long as he stands on the fence line provoking them,” so he insisted on speaking with the animal control officer.

Gunfire: A caller reported hearing shots fired in the 800 block of Oakmont Avenue, Tuesday. Police said they determined two shots were fired. Callers also reported hearing about four shots fired in the 2400 block of Cleveland Avenue but police were not able to find evidence of gunfire.

Parked: A North Fourth Street resident told police he fears a vehicle parked in his neighbor’s back yard “was going to collapse the foundation of his rear structure,” Monday. Police told him the vehicle was parked on private property and they could not do anything about it.

Booked: Joshua Coffman, 42, 307 Union Ave., Steubenville, failure to appear and possession of drugs, Monday. Police reported finding a bag with a white substance inside that he allegedly identified as crack and a pipe in his possession.

Moving violation: A juvenile who failed to stop for a school bus in a school zone, dropping students off with its sign out and illuminated, cited for failure to stop.

Huffing and puffing: A deputy assisting city police with a wellbeing check of a male on Brady Avenue said he was “standing in the grass, possibly nodding off or urinating,” April 27. City police advised they’d dealt with the same man earlier in the day digging through dumpsters and said he is known to “huff” paint and believe that is what he was doing. City police took the investigation over.

Vandalized: Two people in Dillonvale were watching TV when they heard a loud crash in another room, April 27. Upon investigating, they told deputies they discovered a broken window and a brick laying on the ground nearby.

Indiscreet: A county resident said her neighbor is threatening to send photos of her to her children and friends, April 27. She said they’d been “talking” at one point but she does not want to further their relationship and he keeps sending her threatening text messages. She is not interested in pursuing charges.

Alarming: A Toronto man was reportedly causing problems for another man, April 27. The caller complained the man is leaving him nasty voicemails and has shown up at locations where he is causing disturbances and he found a voicemail from the man threatening to “cut you up if I have to.”

Not talking: A caller reported a man being assaulted by two other men in the 500 block of Commercial Avenue, Mingo Junction, but deputies said the alleged victim was “not cooperative,” April 26. They said he refused to answer questions initially though he eventually admitting he’d been in a fight with another man “and stated that’s all that happened.” He was transported to the hospital to get treatment for a cut on his head and was advised to contact city police if he decided to pursue charges.
