Due to the precautions being taken surrounding the coronavirus, the following changes have been made regarding events and meetings in the local area: ¯ The Steubenville Retired Teachers meeting for May has been canceled. ¯ The Franciscan University of Steubenville Women’s Scholarship Guild’s annual Spring Into Spring fundraising event that had been scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled. ¯ The Jefferson County Fair Board has canceled its May 21 meeting. Belleview Pool may stay dry for 2020

STEUBENVILLE — Crews could soon be cleaning and painting Belleview Park’s pools in preparation for swim season — just not this year’s. On Wednesday, after mulling anticipated restrictions on operating public pools in a COVID-19 environment as well as costs, Steubenville’s Parks and Recreation Board recommended that City Council forgo opening the pool this year. Diocese will limit Masses to 50 percent occupancy

STEUBENVILLE — Public Masses are resuming in the Diocese of Steubenville the weekend of May 30-31, but steps are being taken to safeguard the health of participants — including limiting church attendance to 50 percent of occupancy. Guidelines released by Bishop Jeffrey Monforton said social distancing will be practiced in all church spaces, including in the nave, the sanctuary, sacristy and entrances to restrooms, as well as during the processional and recessional. WVNCC to honor Class of 2020 with video tribute

WHEELING — West Virginia Northern Community College is releasing a tribute video for the class of 2020 today, the date its commencement would have been held for the graduating class. WVNCC, through feedback from students, chose to postpone commencement until a future date that has yet to be decided. In addition, WVNCC will light up its three campuses tonight in blue lights to pay tribute to its 2020 graduates as well as first responders and essential workers battling COVID-19. NEW CUMBERLAND — Hancock County’s high schools are still planning to hold commencement exercises for the Class of 2020. Graduation plans were among items discussed during a virtual meeting held Monday by the Hancock County Board of Education, which also approved some end-of-year business.
