NEW CUMBERLAND -- Hancock County's high schools are still planning to hold commencement exercises for the Class of 2020.
Graduation plans were among items discussed during a virtual meeting held Monday by the Hancock County Board of Education, which also approved some end-of-year business.
Oak Glen High School has scheduled its commencement for 6 p.m., May 26, outside of the school, although details have not been finalized.
Weir High will have its graduation at 6 p.m., May 27.
Although state officials recommended that all in attendance wear masks, school board members said they cannot enforce the request.
Attempts to get further details about graduation were not possible as officials didn't respond to inquiries.
During a virtual meeting, the board accepted the resignations of Quinton Smith, assistant wrestling and football coach at Weir Middle School; Erin Shuman, assistant softball coach at Oak Glen High School; Michael Buffo, assistant football coach at WMS; and Mary Ciszek, Weir High School foreign language teacher.
The contracts of Lora Baumgarner, Tiffany Givens and Linda Nicoles were renewed for the 2020-21 school year.
Substitutes hired for next year include supervisory aides Debra Hoffman, Ashley Runkel, Diane Greco, Ashley Tharp, Tyler Hamilton; bus operators Paul Devore, Judy Mullins, Larry Shane, Ronald Dunlap, Robert Hans, Michael Watkins Sr., Ellen Musgraves, William Niesslein; cooks Tiffany Warner, Cindy Chambers, Carly Lafferre, Christina Adams, Rueko Takara, Rebecca Eastham; food driver/custodian Glen Cork, Charles Klar; custodians Dianna Wysocli, Patrick Speer; secretaries Laurie Dankovich, Linda Basil, Kristin Palavis, Penny Lahr, Betsy Anderson; and LPN/supervisory aide Christina Scherich.
The next meeting is set for 5 p.m. Monday at the John D. Rockefeller Career Center in New Cumberland, where members also scheduled an executive session to discuss the superintendent's evaluation.
A regular meeting also will be held at 3:30 p.m. May 26, with a budget hearing at 4:30 p.m. the same day.
