Man arrested shortly after release

STEUBENVILLE — A Brilliant man was arrested on more felony charges about three hours after he was released Monday from the Jefferson County jail on a drug charge.

Robert Norman, 35, of 104 Main St., Brilliant, was arrested by Wells Township Police on Thursday. The police department on Monday had charges of criminal damaging and felony possession of drugs filed against him through the prosecutor’s office.

Dillonvale county court Judge David Scarpone released Norman on Monday on his own recognizance, and Norman had been scheduled to appear today for an arraignment. Norman walked out of the jail around 3:45 p.m. Monday, according to the sheriff’s department.

Township police were called around 7 p.m. on Monday about a breaking and entering in progress at a residence in the 900 block of Fifth Street and saw Norman run from inside.

Officers said they were looking for Norman when they saw him near the area of Third and Main streets. Officers chased Norman before apprehending him in an alley between Second and Labelle streets, according to police.

Norman faces additional charges of breaking and entering and fleeing.
