$75 million expansion project set for Trinity Medical Center West

NEW TRINITY WEST — Trinity Health System officials announced Thursday afternoon plans to build 183,400-square-foot addition to Trinity Medical Center West. The project, fully funded by former Trinity parent Sylvania Franciscan Health and current parent Catholic Health Initiatives, is valued at $75 million. Officials said the addition will change the way health care is delivered, adding technological advances, creating an all-private-room hospital and consolidating services at the West campus. STEUBENVILLE -- A $75 million expansion project will begin next week at Trinity Medical Center West.

Trinity Health System Chief Executive Officer Matt Grimshaw announced the expansion Thursday afternoon and said the addition will be done in three phases. The construction project, including renovations to existing hospital spaces, will be completed in 2021, he explained.

The project will meet a goal that has been part of Trinity since the affiliation of the former Ohio Valley Hospital and St. John Medical Center 21 years ago with the consolidation of all inpatient services to the West campus.

When complete, Trinity West will be an all-private-room hospital.

The project is fully funded, Grimshaw said, through an investment made by Sylvania Franciscan Health and Catholic Health Initiatives, current parent of Trinity.

Grimshaw said the consolidation of services will mean patients won’t have to be transferred between Trinity Medical Center East and West, which will improve patient care, and the private rooms will enable patients to rest easier in a more comfortable environment, while creating a better experience for visitors.

He said the goal was to establish patient rooms resembling a hotel for comfort of the patients.

The design is the work of ESa Architects, CHI’s facility design team, and construction management firm JE Dunn will oversee construction, with local and regional contractors bidding on various parts of the project, Grimshaw said. Local leaders, physicians and staff also were involved.

Rather, it is where we serve our community as we care for our friends, family and neighbors because our work is our ministry. Everyone at Trinity looks forward to serving the people of the Ohio Valley for generations to come.”

CHI has enlisted Dynamis Advisors to determine how to repurpose Trinity East for future use.
