Candidates file for November election

STEUBENVILLE — Candidates for village and township offices and school boards for the Nov. 7 general election submitted their petitions to the Jefferson County Board of Elections by the 4 p.m. deadline on Wednesday.

The elections board is scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. on Aug. 17 to certify the list of candidates.

The voter registration deadline is Oct. 10.

The Steubenville mayor’s race will feature Frankie DiCarlantonio III of 2908 Sunset Blvd., a Democrat; Republican Jerry Barilla of 4353 Steuben Woods Drive; Royal Mayo of 544 Highland Ave., a nonpartisan candidate; and Michael Walenciej of Apartment 805, 180 N. Fourth St., a write-in candidate.

The 2nd Ward council race will feature Craig A. Petrella of 1665 Moreland Drive, a Democrat, and Michael R. Johnson, a Republican, of 2080 Eve Drive.

Scott Dressel, a Democrat of 411 Madison Ave., is unopposed for the 4th Ward council seat.

In the 6th Ward, Samuel B. Ivkovich of 522 Pine Valley Drive, a Republican, and Bob Villamagna of 125 Marion Place, a Democrat, will square off.

In Toronto, Frank E. McEwen Jr. of 712 Logan St., a Democrat, is unopposed for president of council.

James W. Orsini, a Democrat of 523 Nebo Drive, is unopposed for treasurer.

Three Democrats, Glenn R. Dickson, 906 S. River Ave., Ronald L. Holmes of 631 N. Fourth St. and Aaron J. Hunt of 1300 Dennis Way, filed for the three council-at-large seats. Robert L. Bertram, a Republican, of 251 Sarah Blvd. and Joshua Troski of 54 Sarah Blvd., a Democrat, will oppose each other for the 1st Ward council seat.

Three other Toronto Council seats are unopposed — Brian D. Burris, a Democrat, of 713 Grant St., 2nd Ward; James A. Fogle, a Democrat, of 513 Daniels St., 3rd Ward; and John R. Watts, a Democrat, of 1217 N. Fifth St., 4th Ward.

In Mingo Junction, Sophia Schoolcraft of 116 Madison Ave., nonpartisan, is unopposed for treasurer. Three candidates filed for two council seats –Adam Peeler of 307 Carlisle Ave., a Democrat, and George R. Irvin Jr. of 310 Longview Ave. and James Morrocco of 511 Petrick Ave., both nonpartisan.
