'Bigfoot: Do You Believe?'

CADIZ -- Marc DeWerth, Ohio curator for the Bigfoot Field Researcher's Organization (bfro.net), will present a lecture titled "Bigfoot: Do You Believe?" lecture from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on June 16 at the Puskarich Public Library located at 200 E. Market St., Cadiz.

DeWerth, who has been actively investigating Ohio Bigfoot sightings since the late 1990s, is the host and organizer of the Ohio Bigfoot Conference held every May at Salt Fork State Park Lodge and Conference Center.

The "family friendly" event is free to the public and will feature all the most up-to-date Ohio Bigfoot reports, including a multitude of reports in the Harrison and Belmont county area, according to a news release.

There also will be local BFRO investigators on hand to field any and all local reports. The event will include door prizes, books, T-shirts and plaster casts. For information, call (740) 942-2623.

COLLIERS -- Country Friends will host OWL's band on Friday and the Moonlite Special on Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 67 Police Lodge Road, Colliers.

The doors open at 6 p.m, the dance starts at 7 p.m., and the hall closes at 10 p.m. for both events. There is a $5 cover charge per person on dance nights.

Open mic is Monday. The doors open at 4 p.m., the covered-dish meal is served at 5 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. There is no cover charge on Mondays, but donations are appreciated.

Country Friends Foundation Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Christian friendship and brotherly love through music. All proceeds go to charity. Independence Day parade

WEIRTON -- Applications are being accepted for Weirton's Independence Day parade, set to take place June 30.

Applications are available at the Millsop Community Center, and must be completed and returned by June 20. The theme for this year's parade is "Sweet Land of Liberty."

The parade will begin at 10 a.m., with participants checked in at the corner of Main Street and Virginia Avenue by 9:15 a.m. For more information, call (304) 797-5721.

Summer food service program

NEW CUMBERLAND -- The Hancock County 4-H Foundation Inc. has announced its sponsorship of the federally funded summer food service program.

The camp will be held July 17-21 at Tomlinson Run State Park.

Meals will be provided to all eligible children free of charge. To be eligible to receive free meals at a residential camp or an enrolled program, children must meet the income guidelines for reduced price meals in the National School Lunch Program. Children who are part of households that receive SNAP and/or TANF assistance are automatically eligible to receive free meals.

The income guidelines of annual and monthly family income before deductions, respectively, for reduced price meals by family size are: One, $22,311, $1,860; two, $30,044, $2,504; three, $37,777, $3,149; four, $45,510, $3,793; five, $53,243, $4,437; six, $60,976, $5,082; seven, $68,709, $5,726; and eight, $76,442, $6,371. For each additional family member, add $7,733 to the annual income and $645 to the monthly income.

Colliers UMC is planning

Saturday yard sale, breakfast

COLLIERS -- Colliers United Methodist Church will hold a yard sale Saturday.

A free breakfast also will be served from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., with lunches for sale from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Day camp being offered

at Wellsburg 4th Ward Park

WELLSBURG -- A day camp for grades pre-kindergarten through fourth will be held June 11-14 at the 4th Ward Park.

Held in cooperation with New Day Christian Center, it will include activities involving art, nature and exercise and guest speakers. The children may be dropped off at 8:45 a.m. and should be picked up between noon and 12:30 p.m. The children should bring a lunch, and parents are advised peanut products will be present. Brooke Hills Park offering golf lessons for groups of children

WELLSBURG -- Brooke Hills Park will be offering golf lessons for groups of children, ages 7-12, from 11 a.m. to noon each Saturday until July 7.

The cost is $55 per child, with each child receiving a golf shirt.

Lessons also will be offered each Saturday between Aug. 18 and Sept. 15.

The park also offers private lessons for all ages.

Steak fry June 15 to benefit

Brooke Place group home

WELLSBURG -- The Family Connections Inc. auxiliary committee will hold a steak fry from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 15 at Brooke Hills Park's Cardinal Shelter.

Tickets are $25 each or two for $40, with proceeds going to incidental expenses involved in the care of the Brooke Place group home for girls. The dinner will include steak, baked potato, salad, dessert, and a beverage. For tickets, call Bonnie Eltringham at (304) 527-3303.
