WEIRTON -- One of the teams set to do battle Friday night at Jimmy Carey Stadium is going to finally get their elusive first victory.
The Weir High Red Riders are set to host the Cambridge Bobcats in a battle of teams seeking to get in the win column.
Weir High comes in 0-6, coming off a 45-3 loss at state-ranked Keyser last week. Prior to the long trek to face a tough opponent, the Red Riders had started to get some things going and Weir head coach Chris Hill hopes they'll continue that trend.
He also knows the Bobcats are coming to town hungry. Under first-year coach Ramone Conley, Cambridge sits at 0-7.
The Red Riders and Bobcats have one common opponent so far as both dropped a road game at Indian Creek.
Despite being 0-7, the Bobcats do bring some skilled players to town as quarterback AJ Lawrence has thrown for 572 yards and three scores and rushed for another 370 yards and seven touchdowns.
He is the team's leading passer and rusher.
Junior Blaize Barlow is his top target with 13 catches for 150 yards and score, while senior Marshall Laishley has caught two TDs.
"They're going to be aggressive up front; they're in a stacked defense, but they like to move their front and blitz," Hill said. "Offensively, their quarterback, A.J. Lawrence, is a dual threat kid. He can run it, he can throw it. He's got some weapons on the outside and the backfield.
"I expect them to be aggressive. They're a scrappy team and I think it's going to be a good football game."
The game is the first of three-straight at home for the Red Riders before they close the season with short trip down Route 2 to rival Brooke, meaning the long trips for the Red Riders are done for this season.
"We were on the bus for probably a total of eight hour last week, with stopping to eat and the game time. It was probably about a 12-hpur trip for us," Hill said. "We're excited to be coming home, it's always good to be at home and especially after a long trip.
"We have three of the last four at home and we're looking forward to it.
"We want to keep improving and working to get better every day."
The opening kick on Friday night is slated for 7 p.m.
