WINTERSVILLE -- The Indian Creek offense put on a show on Thursday night.
Led by big nights from standout tailback Bruce Mazar and quarterback Ethan Starr, the Redskins racked up 600 yards of offense in a 68-27 victory over visiting Harrison Central at Kettlewell Stadium.
Mazar rushed for 216 yards and four touchdowns, while Starr rushed for 138 yards and three scores and threw for another 148 yards and an additional TD to lead Creek to the victory.
Mazar’s big night started with an 80-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. He also had a 5-yard scoring run the first quarter, a 2-yard scoring run in the second quarter and a 36-yard TD in the second half. He had 128 yards in the first quarter alone and 147 in the opening half.
Starr rushed for scores of 21, 1 and 43 yards while throwing a 20-yard touchdown on the opening drive of the second half.
Creek (4-3) led 12-7 after one and 34-14 at halftime. After leading 48-27 going to the fourth quarter, Creek out-scored the Huskies 20-0 in the fourth quarter to pull away and enact the running clock.
The Huskies (1-6) tried to keep pace, led by 121 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground and 128 passing yards and a passing score from quarterback Kingston Smith, but ultimately Creek’s offense was too much to keep pace with.
Smith rushed for scores of 9, 16 and 51 yards and threw a 63-yard TD pass to Lance Smith.
Also for Creek, freshman Gage Brown hauled in an 86-yard catch and run for a score on a pass from backup QB Kade Haines, who was on the receiving end of Starr’s TD toss.
Freshman Ty Banfield picked off a Huskies pass and returned it 36 yards for the final score of the game.
Also on defense, Mason Salazar had a sack and two tackles for loss, Jabari White had two sacks and a TFL, Jayden Sturtevant had a sack and Mazar added a TFL.
Creek’s 68 points and 600 yards were both season-highs. The Redskins racked up 366 yards on the ground as a team and passed for 234.
