INDIAN CREEK BLANKS BEAVER LOCAL

CALCUTTA -- The Indian Creek football team continued its playoff push with a big win on the road at Buckeye 8 Conference for Beaver Local on Friday night, 27-0.

Bruce Mazar ran for a 2-yard touchdown run and hauled in another score on a 5-yard pass from Ethan Star on his way to finishing with 228 yards on 36 carries. Starr also had a big night, throwing for 81 yards and two scores and rushing for another 61 yards and another TD.

Sawyer Pietro also hauled in a 29-yard touchdown pass from Starr in the win.

The Redskins improved to 5-3 on the season, have won four of their last five and Joe Eitel’s unofficial ranking had them moving up to No. 13 in the Division IV, Region 15 standings as of Friday night, just one spot out of the top-12 to make the playoffs.

Creek has a big match up on the road at St. Clairsville next week.

CRUSADERS MAKE IT FOUR-STRAIGHT WINS

BRIDGEPORT -- The Catholic Central football team went on the road to Bridgeport on Friday night and continued its winning streak with a 34-18 victory over the Bulldogs.

Now 5-3 and winners of four-straight, Central got two touchdown runs from Rahim Mitchell in the win.

After Bridgeport pulled within two at halftime at 14-12, the Crusaders out-scored the Bulldogs 20-6 in the second half to pull away.

Central is back at home next Saturday night to host Conotton Valley.

TORONTO SUFFERS FIRST LOSS

WOODSFIELD -- The Toronto Red Knights fell from the ranks of the unbeaten on Friday night, dropping a 39-0 contest on the road at Monroe Central on Friday night.

The Red Knights, which entered the week at No. 6 in Division VII in the AP Poll, fall to 7-1 on the season.

Toronto will look to bounce back next week at Buckeye Local.

WEIR FALLS TO CAMBRIDGE

WEIRTON -- In a battle of teams looking to end long losing streaks, the Cambridge Bobcats were able to top Weir High 35-14 on Friday night at Jimmy Carey Stadium for their first victory of the season.

The Red Riders will look to get in the win column next week when they host East Liverpool.

BROOKE FALLS IN CLOSE GAME

ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- The Brooke football ball fell in a close battle on the road at St. Clairsville on Friday night, 14-13.

Kamden Sperringer threw his second TD pass of the game in the fourth quarter and the Bruins went for two to try to take the lead, but the Red Devils got a stop and hung on to take the win.

Brooke, now 4-2, is back at home next week to host 5-2 John Marshall in a key Class AAA match up.

EDISON SUFFERS CLOSE LOSS

RICHMOND -- The Edison football team battled hard on Friday but dropped a close 29-28 loss to visiting Vincent Warren.

The Wildcats, now 2-6, host Harrison Central next week on senior night in their home finale.

HUSKIES FALL TO BELLAIRE

CADIZ -- The Harrison Central football team dropped a 34-0 loss at home at Wagner Field to visiting Buckeye 8 foe Bellaire on Friday night.

The now 1-7 Huskies visit Edison next Friday.

JETS TAKE OFF AGAINST PANTHERS

BELMONT -- The Buckeye Local football team went on the road to Union Local on Friday night and could not slow down the Jets, falling 54-7.

The now 0-8 Panthers host Toronto next Friday night.
