STEUBENVILLE – The Catholic Central girls’ soccer team finished off the 15th Annual Together We Care event off in grand fashion.
Five goals scored at least one goal leading Catholic Central to an 8-0 victory against Harrison Central via mercy rule in the fifth and final game of the event Saturday afternoon on Reno Saccoccia Field inside historic Harding Stadium.
“They team played very well today,” Catholic Central (8-5-1) head coach Jonathan Hoover said. “We were able to move the ball and get a lot of girls involved on the offensive end.”
Gigi Rook and Zélie Baillargeon each recorded two goals to lead the way offensively for the Blue-and-Gold. Also, Aurelia Hoover tallied a goal and an assist, Emebet Banga and Gemma Weigel each collected one goal and Delaney Dankert and Clara Anderson each delivered one assist.
Adlee Long made one save in goal for the Crusaders.
“Harrison Central is a tough team,” Coach Hoover said. “Their goalie played great and made quite a few terrific saves.”
Following the game, the Offensive and Defensive MVPs were announced. For the Crusaders, Rook was named her team’s Offensive MVP, while Aurelia Hoover was named Defensive MVP. For the Huskies (4-10), Marley Zeroski was named Offensive MVP, while goalie Lilli Smith was named Defensive MVP.
“Gigi had two great goals today,” Coach Hoover said. “She worked hard to attack from the wing. Aurie is a tough midfielder. She played a good game preventing Harrison from getting forward.”
Catholic Central is scheduled to play Jefferson County rival Indian Creek at 6 p.m. Tuesday night on the road at Kettlewell Stadium.
Harrison Central is slated to play East Liverpool at 6 p.m. Thursday night at home out at Wagner Field.
The event opened with the Big Red JV boys’ soccer team taking on Indian Creek, and Big Red ended up shutting out the Redskins, 3-0, Saturday morning.
Christopher Jones ended up netting a pair of goals to lead the way offensively for the Red-and-Black, while Daniel Moss delivered one goal. Also, Eli Jankowski tallied an assist as did Big Red goalie Brayden Hayes.
Following the end of the game, the Offensive and Defensive MVPs for both teams were announced. For Big Red, Jones was named his team’s Offensive MVP, while Moss was named Defensive MVP. For the Redskins (0-11), Cross County was named Offensive MVP and goalie Crue Roe was named the Defensive MVP.
Indian Creek is scheduled to take on Weir at 6 p.m. today at home at Kettlewell Stadium.
In the second game of the day, Justin Scott and Zach Harbold each tallied two goals to lead the Harrison Central boys’ soccer team to a 7-0 victory against Edison via mercy rule.
Triston Cole, Gustavo Mendes and Jordan Moore each collected a goal for the Huskies (7-4-2).
The Offensive and Defensive MVPs for both teams were announced following the end of the game. For Harrison Central, Scott was named Offensive MVP, while Cole was named Defensive MVP. For the Wildcats (6-7-2), Noah Lucas was named Offensive MVP, while Jonathan Dennis was named Defensive MVP.
Harrison Central is scheduled to play St. Clairsville at 6 p.m. Tuesday night on the road down at Red Devil Stadium.
Edison is slated to play St. Clairsville at 6 p.m. Thursday night at home out at the Edison Unified Sports Complex.
