MADONNA FALLS AT MATHEWS
VIENNA -- The Madonna football team dropped a 41-7 loss on the road at Mathews on Thursday night.
The game was changed to a road game after previously being set to be played at Oak Glen as a Blue Dons home game.
The Mustangs opened a 21-0 lead after the first quarter before Madonna got on the board in the second quarter. The hosts led 34-7 at halftime.
Mathews, in the thick of the the Division VI playoff race in Ohio, improves to 4-2. The loss is the third-straight for the Blue Dons and drops them to 1-4 at the midpoint of the season.
The Blue Dons will look to bounce back next Friday hosting Calhoun.

SECTIONAL TOURNAMENT
BIG RED QUALIFIES FOR DISTRICTS
CADIZ -- The Big Red golf team finished in third place Thursday in the Division II, East District sectional tournament at Cadiz Country Club, earning them a place in the district tournament.
Big Red’s team score of 341 was enough to place in the top four and extend the team’s season.
Jaggar Rawson led the effort with a score of 79, while Andrew Matzorkis fired an 85, Patrick Jenkins an 87, Noah Kokiko a 90 and Gino Scaffidi a 91.
“It definitely wasn’t our prettiest day of golf, but that’s why you play all 18 holes,” Big Red head coach Joe Garay said. “The guys battled all day and put together a great back nine when we needed it most to sneak into the top four and earn our spot at districts. I am extremely proud of this group for finding a way to get the job done when it mattered most.”
Harrison Central’s Cash Meadows shot a 78 to qualify for the district tournament as an individual.
The Division II East District tournament is Monday at Eagle Sticks Golf Club in Zanesville.

RED RIDERS TOP QUAD
NEW CUMBERLAND -- The Weir High golf team added three wins to its season total, winning a nine-hole quad over Madonna, Cambridge and Oak Glen at Woodview.
The Red Riders, now 23-6 overall on the season, fired a 167, led by match medalist Guy Meneely with a 39, Aiden Ferguson and Landon Donaldson with a 41 each and Jonny Horstman with a 46.
The Blue Dons (190) were led by Evan Kaczmarek with a 42, while Oak Glen (197) was led by Maddox Chaffin with a 44.
The Red Riders, Blue Dons and Golden Bears are back at Woodview on Monday along with Brooke to compete for the Hancock County Cup.

OVAC CONSOLATION
CRUSADERS TOP CREEK
STEUBENVILLE -- The Catholic Central girls soccer team battled past Indian Creek in an OVAC consolation game on Thursday, 4-1.
Aurelia Hoover tallied two goals and two assists, Clara Anderson had two assists, Zelie Baillargeon and Lily Krivoniak a goal each and Addie Long made five saves for the the now 6-5-1 Crusaders, who play Weir High next Thursday.
Creek dropped to 5-8 and hosts Edison on Monday.

RICHMOND -- Visiting Sandy Valley topped Edison 5-0 on Thursday at the Edison Unified Sports Complex.
The Wildcats (3-8) travel to Indian Creek on Monday.

BROOKE TOPS UNIVERSITY
MORGANTOWN -- The Brooke boys soccer team earned an impressive road win on Thursday, topping University 3-1.
Jacob High had two goals and Jaxon Johnson had a goal and an assist for the Bruins (4-7-2), while Bronson Pack made 13 saves in goal.
EDISON BLANKS MONROE
RICHMOND -- The Edison boys soccer team blanked Monroe Central 5-0 on Thursday night to improve to 5-4-2 on the season. They host Carrollton on Saturday.

CREEK FALLS AT EAST LIVERPOOL
EAST LIVERPOOL -- The Indian Creek volleyball team dropped a sweep at East Liverpool on Thursday, 25-14, 15-19, 25-17.
Creek was led by 18 digs, three kills and three aces from Nina Householder, 20 digs and an ace from Phoenyx Vines, nine assists, four aces, three kills and seven digs from Meghan Paoloemillio and five kills, three blocks and a dig from Kendal Canestraro.
