CHESTER -- The Chester-Newell Sportsmen Club recently held its final Ohio River catfish tournament of the summer, with Chris Knox of East Liverpool, Ohio, taking both first and second place.
Knox brought in the only two catfish caught during the Aug. 15 tournament, held on a rainy and muddy Ohio River. His catches included a 25-inch flathead and a 20 1/2-inch flathead. The water temperature was 75 degrees.
The club also has several upcoming activities planned.
A free hunter education class will be held Sept. 12 from 1-6 p.m. and Sept. 13 from 1-6:30 p.m. Participants must attend both days unless they have completed the online course, in which case they may attend Sunday only.
Registration is available through the West Virginia section of Register-Ed.
A free children’s fishing tournament will be held Oct. 3 from 1-4 p.m. at the club. The tournament is open to children ages 3-15, with prizes, food and drinks provided.
The club’s fall turkey shoots will begin Oct. 4. Sign-ups begin at 9:30 a.m., with shooting starting at 10 a.m.
The Chester-Newell Sportsmen Club is located at 131 Gas Valley Road, Georgetown, Pa., behind Green Valley Dairy.
