Weir High tops Edison in home opener

WEIRTON -- The Weir High volleyball team kicked off the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday with a four-set win over visiting Edison.

The Red Riders won the match, winning sets one, two and four, 25-12, 25-19, 20-25, 25-22.

Lilionna Ascencio had 28 assists, four aces and eight digs, Ella Kaufman had 17 digs, two aces and five kills, Gabby Sprouse tallied seven kills and six digs, Zoey Spencer had eight kills, Lauren Nagy tallied four aces and 12 digs, Zanyah Whitaker recorded seven kills and Alivia Maciek had nine digs.

The win evened the Red Riders’ record at 1-1 headed into a meeting with Wheeling Park today.

Big Red wins five set battle with Creek

STEUBENVILLE -- The Big Red volleyball team rallied back to top visiting Indian Creek in five sets on Tuesday evening inside the Crimson Center for their first victory over the young season.

The Redskins won the first and third sets to lead the match 1-0 and 2-1, but Big Red tallied wins in the second, fourth and fifth sets to rally for a 17-25, 25-15, 20-25, 25-10, 15-9 victory.

Creek (0-2) got nine assists, six kills, four aces and seven digs from Meghan Paoloemilio, five kills and five digs from Trinity Greene and four kills, four blocks and five aces from Kylie Dray.

Big Red, now 1-1, hosts Edison on Thursday. Creek hosts Beaver Local the same night.

Potters top Golden Bears in four

NEW MANCHESTER -- The Oak Glen volleyball team dropped a four set match to rival East Liverpool on Tuesday, 25-18, 23-25, 19-25, 23-25.

Zoey Caughey had 12 kills, Mikalyn Balch had 10 kills and 24 assists. Naomi Ayers had nine kills, Audrina May had eight kills, Mattie Carney had six kills, and Laikynn Eckleberry had four kills. Bryson Adams had 20 assists. Keira Vick had 16 digs, Kendall Six had 13 digs, and Layla Skavenski had five digs.

Oak Glen, now 5-2, hosts Doddridge County on Saturday morning.

GIRLS SOCCER

Huskies blank Union Local

CADIZ -- The Harrison Central girls soccer team defeated Union Local on Monday evening, 3-0, and got all three goals from Marley Zeroski.

Zeroski tallied a hat trick for the Huskies, now 2-2. Scoring once on a rebound in the first half and adding two more in the second half -- one off a pass from Teagan Parks and another on a bouncing ball she was able to locate and shoot.

The Huskies travel to Indian Creek on Thursday.
