BIG RED SWEEPS HOME TRI
STEUBENVILLE -- The Big Red golf team returned to its home course on Thursday in victorious fashion, topping Indian Creek and Morgan at Steubenville Country Club in a 9-hole tri-match.
Big Red carded a team score of 158, 19 better than Creek and 49 ahead of Morgan.
Steubenville senior Jaggar Rawson was the match medalist with one-under-par 35 for the low score of the day.
Andrew Matzorkis was not far behind for Big Red, turning in a 37. Noah Kokiko shot a 41, Pat Jenkins a 45, Joel Elliott a 46 and Gino Scaffidi a 47.
Creek also had two golfers in the 30s as Riley Guskea shot a 38 and Garrin Clark a 39, respectively. Maddox Barnett turned in a 49, Zeke Roe a 51, David Pawelczyk a 55 and Will Kelly a 56.
Morgan was led by a 49 from Liam Ponchak.
With the two victories, Big Red’s duel record improves to 10-2 on the young season.
Big Red is back at home on Monday to host Toronto in an 18-hole duel match at Steubenville Country Club.
BRUINS WIN A QUAD
WELLSBURG -- The Brooke golf team earned a trio of victories on Thursday at Highland Springs, earning wins over Madonna, Toronto and Trinity Christian in a quad match, giving David Gaudino his first victory as the Bruins head coach.
The Bruins turned in a team score of 331, which was 22 strokes better than the Blue Dons and 71 ahead of the Red Knights.
Brooke was led by match medalist Carter Neilson, who carded a low score of 79. Max Malinky shot an 81, Ethan Arthurs an 84 and Andrew Petrella an 87.
Evan Kaczmarek led Madonnna with an 81, followed by Justin Kaczmarek with an 89, Xavier Taylor with a 91 and Thomas Welch with a 92.
For the Red Knights, Joey Westlake carded a 95, Stevie O’Halek fired a 101, Hank Bodnar a 102 and Landon Danko a 104.
Ethan Hartley led Trinity with a 90.
