Edison hoping for a good start at Coshocton

COSHOCTON – The Edison football team is looking to get the new season off on the right foot against a new opponent.
Edison is set to take on Coshocton at 7 p.m. tonight on the road out at Stewart Field.
Mike Collopy makes his return to the sidelines as head coach of the Wildcats against the Redskins.
Collopy previously served as the team’s head coach before being an assistant coach last season under former head coach Anthony Pierro.
“We have been improving,” Collopy said. “I thought we had a good week of practice going into the Wheeling Central scrimmage. It was not the performance we wanted, but the preparation was good. Some of that is on me as the coach. We had a good practice today. Our attention to detail was good. The kids were engaged with everything that was going on. We had a good practice today, and now we need have another good practice Tuesday.”
Coshocton enters this season coming off a 2-8 campaign last season. The Redskins lost seven-straight games at one point.
“Offensively, they have some nice athletes and height at the receiver position,” Collopy said. “Their quarterback has nice size. He has a good arm. He has good poise in the pocket. He has a returning starter. They have a good running back, and they do different things with their H-back. Their offensive line is big. Their center is their best or one of their best two-way players. He plays linebacker on defense. Defensively, he is all over the field. We are going to have to know where he is at at all time. It is the same thing as their skill guys with their defensive backs. They are good athletes. As good as their Mike is, their Sam and Will are just as good.
“They play hard. One thing that stood out to me on film is they really play hard. They have a new coach. He is a legend at the school. They also played two tough scrimmages. They played Dalton and Tri-Valley. They are as tested as we are.
“We want to start putting good reps together. Putting good reps together equals a good day. We want to have more good days moving forward.”
The Redskins have a new head coach this season in the recently hired Braydon Johns. Johns is a 2021 graduate of Coshocton.
The Wildcats know what it is going to take in order to leave Coshocton County with a win this week.
“Offensively, we are going to have to sustain drives,” Collopy said. “We are going to have to hold onto the football. We are going to have to mix up the run and the pass. Defensively, we are going to have to be aligned. It is aligned assignment. We are going to have to tackle, and we are going to have to get to the football. Special teams can win or lose you a game. We have worked on that. Our special teams had a good day of practice today, and we want to keep that momentum going. We had a good practice today, and we want to have another good one tomorrow. We want to keep the same intensity and focus.”
The Silver-and-Black are looking forward to getting the season started.
“One thing that is good is you tend to see the anxiousness appear later on in the week,” Collopy said. “You want your will to prepare to be greater than your will to win. You want to have good reps. We want to start to put good reps together. We want to take it one rep at a time and one day at a time.
“We had a good practice today. We threw a lot of things at them. The kids were engaged and focused. They picked up the wrinkles we threw in. They were engaged with everything we were doing.
“Our guys have been very consistent. They work hard. We want to string good reps together. It all starts with your reps. You want to win the rep and win the week. You just want to rinse and repeat.”
