DANIELS -- Ryan Bilby’s bid for a second West Virginia Open Championship title came up one spot short.
The Brooke High School alum entered the final round of the 93rd West Virginia Open Championship at Glade Springs on Friday in the lead, but finished the event in the second place.
Bilby, a native of Follansbee and former collegiate golfer for Marshall Universirty, shot a final round score of an even par 72 on the Stonehaven Course, finishing the event at seven under par.
Bridgeport, W.Va.’s Mason Williams fired a 68 on the final day to overtake the local and claim the title at 10-under.
Bilby had shot up the leader board on Thursday with a 66 on the Cobb Course. He opened the event with a 71 on Wednesday on Stonehaven.
He won the event in 2023. The W.Va. Open is the biggest event of the season for the West Virginia Golf Association.
EDISON OPENS WITH A WIN
MINERVA -- The Edison girls golf team opened its season Friday with a 177-217 victory against United at Edgewater Golf Course in Minerva.
Leading the Wildcats was Kallie McKeegan with a low round of 39. Bella Evans followed with a 42, Mady Cornell a 47 and Teagan Reynolds added a 49 to round out the team score.
The Wildcats will play next in their home opener on Tuesday, as they host Harrison Central at Spring Hills Golf Club. Tee time is set for 9 a.m.
