Locals qualify for OHSAA track and field championships
COLUMBUS – After the regional meets held Thursday-Saturday, several local athletes have qualified for this week’s OHSAA Jesse Owens Track and Field Championships.
The state meet will be held Thursday-Sunday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of the Ohio State University.
BIG RED
Bri Hudson and Ziare Scurry took home OHSAA Division II Troy Regional Championships for Big Red to lead their strong contingent headed to Columbus.
Hudson won the girls discus by over 20 feet with a throw of 148’8 and Ziare Scurry broke his own Big Red record of 48.04 with a 47.06 in the 400 Meters to score big for the Big Red Girls and Boys Track and Field Teams.
Two school records were also broken and five season best performances were displayed at the Troy Regional.
Regional results for Big Red also include: Phynyx Fleming in the girls Shot Put, placing 2nd with a personal best throw of 39′ 3.5″; Josiah Rea in the 110 High Hurdles, placing 2nd in a time of 14.89 and in the High Jump, placing 5th, with a jump of 6’6; Colton Henderson in the boys 100, placing 4th with a 10.92 and 2nd in the 200 with a 22.00; The girls 4×200 team of Terionah Thompson, Nylah McShan, Laila Reed, and Kaycee King placed 5th with a season best time of 1:43:53; The boys 4×200 team of Che’meir Adams, Henderson, Rea, and Ziare Scurry won the Regional meet, running a season best time of 1:27:25; Another season best and school record time of 3:18.69 was ran by the Boys 4×400 of Adams, Rea, Landon Bowers, and Scurry, placing them 3rd at the meet; The girls 4×100 team of Adriana Crabtree, McShan, Sidnee Reed, and King ran a season best time of 50.30, placing 8th; King also placed 8th in the 100 with a time of 12.97; Bowers placed 9th in the boys 800 with a 1:59.91.
CATHOLIC CENTRAL
The Crusaders’ James McInnis won the regional championship in the long jump with a 20’11.5″ and earned a trip to Columbus.
INDIAN CREEK
The Redskins Delana Bove earned a trip to the state meet finishing as regional runner up in the 400 in a time of 58.82.
EDISON
The Wildcats Matt Evans qualified placing fifth in the 100 hurdles in a school record 14.98; Brett Worrels was third in the long jump to advance to Columbus with a school record 22;6.75″; the girls 4×800 relay team of Josie Lesnansky, Maylee Rawson, Annie Board and Lydia Krepps set a school record with a 9:55.04 to place third and qualify; Lacey Pelley placed fifth in the high jump and advanced to the state meet.
BUCKEYE LOCAL
The Panthers’ Jenna Delvecchio won the regional championship in the 100 hurdles posting a season best time of 14.97.
TORONTO
The Red Knights’ Josie Dickinson broke a school record in the 800 and earned a trip to Columbus with a 2:20.29.
