Oak Glen’s season ends in close battle
WILLIAMSTOWN — After upsetting Williamstown earlier in the week, Oak Glen gave the Yellowjackets another tough battle on Thursday in an elimination game.
The Golden Bears, looking to stay alive in the Class AA, Region 1 tournament, got off to a good start, scoring the first four runs of the game to open a 4-0 lead, which they held until the fourth inning.
The host Yellowjackets, however, got a run each in the fourth and sixth before driving three runs across in the bottom of the seventh for a walk-off, 5-4 win.
Williamstown advances to face Doddridge County, the high seed in the bracket, needing two wins to move on.
Oak Glen finishes its season with a mark of 12-23 but made some noise in the postseason.
For the Golden Bears, James Rohbeck had a pair of hits on Thursday, while Josh Maher, Camm Carter and Christian Chappell each had an hit and an RBI.
Maher fired the first 6 2/3 innings with a strikeout and three walks to put Oak Glen in position. The last two runs Williamstown scored were unearned.

Indian Creek heads into the tournament with a win
CADIZ — Two local teams with big goals in the post season met in a regular season contest on Thursday as state ranked clubs Indian Creek (Division III) and Harrison Central (Division V) clashed at Mazeroski Field to tune up for their district games next week.
Indian Creek scored the first four runs of the game and made that stand up, holding off the Huskies for a 7-4 victory.
Creek scored two runs in the top of the seventh after the Huskies had rallied to within 5-4 in the fifth.
Sylus Hyde had a double, single and two RBIs at the plate while tossing the first two innings on the mound, not allowing a hit and striking out three in getting crediting with the win.
Hunter Rusnak had a double and an RBI, James Brothers had a hit and an RBI and Luke McVicker had two hits and three RBIs to lead the offense for Creek, which won for the 20th time this season.
Heath and Garrin Clark each fired two innings and Gavin Pownall worked a scoreless seventh for the save.
For the Huskies, Hunter Snyder had two hits, Gage Stoneking two RBIs and Colson Crothers and Lance Smith an RBI each. Snyder and Kolton Mizer each had a double.
Colten Rutter, Stoneking and Snyder combined on the mound, Snyder striking out two in three innings of work to finish things.
Creek will host Tri-Valley in the Division III East District semifinals on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. The Huskies host West Muskingum on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the Division V, East District semis.
