Toronto falls at River
HANIBAL — The Toronto softball team fell 13-3 at River on Monday in the opening round of the Division VII East District tournament.
The Red Knights, who were the No. 7 seed, finish the season at 12-14. River, the No. 3 seed, advances to play No. 1 Caldwell in the district semis next week.
Lily Sapp and Arianna Highsmith each had an RBI for Toronto, Sapp, Haley Bodnar and Jaylee Brown each hitting a double.

Big Red blanks Cambridge
STEUBENVILLE — The Big Red baseball team got back in the win column on Monday.
After five and a half scoreless innings, Big Red scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and Matt Fabbro made it stand up a Steubenville snapped a five-game slide with a 2-0 win over visiting Cambridge on Monday.
Big Red (13-9) got their runs when Mason Chmierlorski and Jaggar Rawson scored on a passed ball.
AJ Borsch and Karson Simmons had the only hits for Big Red on the day, but Fabbro made sure the offense was all they needed.
He struck out nine in a complete game shutout, also holding the Bobcats to two hits. Big Red played errorless ball behind him.
Steubenville is back in action today hosting St. Clairsville.
Weir falls in close battle with Ferry
WEIRTON — The Weir High baseball team returned home on Monday and dropped a close, 7-6 decision to visiting Martins Ferry on Monday in the battle of the Riders.
Teddy Glyptis and Matt Geer each had a pair of hits for the Red Riders (14-15), Geer and Liam Williamson each having a double. Nick DiMatteis had two RBIs, while Nico Glass, Aleks Zanieski, Grant Upright and Jonathan Horstman each drove in one run.
Zanieski struck out 11 batters in the first five innings in a no-decision on the mound.
Weir High is back in action today hosting Beaver Local.
Madonna falls at Cameron
CAMERON — The Madonna baseball team dropped a 7-3 decision on the road at Cameron on Monday.
The Blue Dons (10-9) got a double, single and an RBI from Sam Brooks, while Jacob Lazear drove in a run.
Madonna hosts Magnolia on Thursday in its regular season finale.
Oak Glen edged by UL
BELMONT — The Oak Glen baseball team fell in a close battle on the road at Union Local Monday, 3-2.
All of the scoring happened in the first two innings.
James Rohback had an RBI triple for the Golden Bears (10-19), while Christian Chappell had two hits and Camm Carter doubled.
Josh Maher had six strikeouts and just one walk in the tough luck loss on the mound.
Oak Glen hosts Martins Ferry today.
Edison comeback comes up short at Park
WHEELING — After falling behind seven runs in the second inning at Wheeling Park on Monday, Edison battled back to within two, but the whole ended up being a little too deep as the Wildcats fell, 7-5.
Kyle Long had two hits and two RBIs, JD Henderson tallied two RBIs with a triple and Brady and Nolan Haught each doubled.
Edison (13-6) is at Indian Creek today.
Central edged by Monroe
STEUBENVILLE — The Catholic Central baseball team dropped a low scoring battle with Monroe Central on Monday at home, 2-1.
Matty Jones had two hits and Andrew Napoli the lone RBI for the Crusaders (5-14).
Jones fired 6 2/3 innings on the mound, taking the tough luck loss.
Central hosts Buckeye Local on Thursday to close the regular season.
