Weir baseball competes at PNC Park

PITTSBURGH – The Weir High baseball team got the exciting opportunity to play at PNC Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Riders took on Grove City at the home of the Pirates.
Weir fell behind early, but battled to tie the game at 2-2 in the fifth inning. Grove City, however, battled back with a pair of runs in the sixth and held on for a 4-2 win.
Nico Glass had an RBI double in the fifth inning to knot the score, and Kason Lash drove in a run an inning earlier with a well executed sac-bunt. Teddy Glyptis had two hits on the day for Weir.
On the mound, Cayden Braswell struck out three in three innings, Aleks Zanieski struck out four in two innings and Matt Geer fired three strikeouts in one inning of work.
The Red Riders (14-13) are at home against Martins Ferry today.
SOFTBALL
Oak Glen finishes regular season strong
NEW MANCHESTER – The Oak Glen softball finished the regular season with a 7-0 win over Monroe Central at home on Saturday.
Brayley Lash had a home run, two single and two RBIs, Mattie Carney had two triples and three RBIs and Mikalyn Balch and Macie Hartung each drove in a run.
Carney fired the first six innings, striking out 12, while Carney finished the shutout with two strikeouts in the last inning.
Oak Glen (16-10) begins tournament play on Tuesday.
