Big win for Edison
CADIZ — The Edison baseball team walked off big win over reigning Divisin VI state runner up Lake Christian on Friday at Mazeroski Field in Cadiz, 2-1.
Nolan Haught’s two-run knock in the bottom of the seventh lifted the Wildcats to the victory after they trailed 1-0 from the top of the first inning. He finished with a double and a single to go with the two RBIs.
Brady Haught fired a strong game on the mound, striking out four and walking one in a complete game victory, limiting Lake Christian to three hits.
Edison (13-6) takes on Indian Creek on Tuesday.
Central battles Cameron close
CAMERON — The Catholic Central baseball team had a lead against OVAC champion Cameron on the road on Friday, but came up a little short, 5-3.
Central got a double and two RBIs from Matty Jones, while Luke Bryan struck out eight in five innings on the mound.
The Crusaders host Monroe Central on Monday.
SOFTBALL
Owens blasts another in Madonna win
WHEELING — The Madonna softball team got another blast from Madi Owens, her 15th of the season, leading the Blue Dons to a 10-3 victory at Linsly on Friday in the regular season finale.
Madonna heads to the post season at 19-5.
Owens finished 3 for 4 on the day with four RBIs, also hitting a double. Peyton Conley had two hits and an RBI, Rylee Birkhimer tallied three hits and an RBI, Elaina Foresha had two hits and Taylor Birkhimer had two hits and two RBIs.
Conley struck out three in 4 1/3 innings for the win in the circle, while Kendal Ryan went the final 2 2/3.
Madonna opens regional play next week.
