Red Riders win on the road

INDUSTRY, Pa. — The Weir High baseball team took a trip to Western Beaver on Tuesday and came home with a convincing victory.

The Red Riders defeated Western Beaver, 8-1, for their fifth win in their last six games.

Aleks Zanieski fired a gem on the mound, allowing just an unearned run in 6 2/3 innings and striking out 13 batters with just two walks before hitting his pitch limit. Nick DiMatteis came on and fired a strikeout for the final out.

At the plate, Teddy Glyptis had two hits and two RBIs, while Matt Geer had a double and two RBIs and Zanieski and Cayden Braswell each had a pair of hits.

The Red Riders (13-13) visit East Liverpool on Thursday.

Edison tops the Panthers

RICHMOND — After falling behind early, the Edison baseball team got the bats going and stormed away with a 10-1 win over visiting Buckeye Local on Tuesday.

The Wildcats plated seven runs in the bottom of the third after trailing 1-0.

Kyle Long and Evan Kimmerle had two hits and an RBI each, while Kayden Russell, Brady Haught, Bryson Cunningham and Sam Auteri each drove in a run.

Long fired the first four innings on the mound and did not give up an earned run, while Liam Bissett fired the final three scoreless for a three inning save, striking out six without a walk.

Cam Rusnak had two hots for the Panthers and Grant Dombroski had their lone RBI.

Edison (12-4) hosts Toronto today in a big local showdown of state ranked teams. Buckeye Local (4-14) hosts Cambridge today.

SOFTBALL

Toronto tops Lisbon

LISBON — The Toronto softball team ended a four game slide on Tuesday, holding off Lisbon for an 8-7 road win.

The Red Knights (11-12) got two doubles, a single and two RBIs from JJ Rebich, a triple, double and an RBI from Jaylee Brown, three hits and an RBI from Keiara Bailey and two hits and an RBI from Haley Bodnar and Adali Mick.

The Red Knights host East Liverpool today.
