Baseball tourney set in Ohio
STEUBENVILLE – The local Ohio baseball team learned their postseason fates Sunday afternoon. Seven local baseball teams will be competing in the district tournaments in the state of Ohio beginning next week.
Indian Creek and Big Red will be competing in the Ohio Division III East/Southeast District Tournament. The Redskins are the No. 1 seed in the tournament, while Big Red is the No. 3 seed.
Big Red is set to open up district play against No. 4 seed Tri-Valley in the district quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Monday at home up at the Crimson Complex. The winner of the game between Big Red and the Scotties will take on Indian Creek at 5 p.m. May 26 up at Muth Field. The Redskins have won both meetings this season against Big Red winning the first game, 13-6, April 3 and the second one, 9-4, April 29. Both games were played at Big Red.
In the other quarterfinal, No. 5 seed Dover is set to take on No. 6 seed Zanesville at 5 p.m. Monday at home. The winner of that game is slated to play No. 2 seed New Philadelphia in the semifinals at 5 p.m. May 26 on the road. The Quakers have defeated the Crimson Tornadoes twice this season.
The district final is set to be played at 5 p.m. May 28 at a site to be announced.
Edison and Buckeye Local will be competing in the Division IV Eastern District Tournament. The Wildcats are the No. 3 seed in the East 1 District.
The district quarterfinals will be played at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the higher seed team’s home field with the semifinals being held at 5 p.m. May 27 at the higher seed’s home field once again.
Edison is scheduled to open the tournament against No. 12 seed West Holmes in the district quarterfinals out at the Edison Unified Sports Complex. The winner of that game will take on the winner of the game between No. 6 seed Philo and No. 11 seed Maysville. The winners of those two games will meet in the district semifinals.
In the other quarterfinal, No. 7 seed Meadowbrook will take on No. 10 seed John Glenn. The winner of that game will play No. 1 seed Indian Valley in the semifinals.
The district final is set for 5 p.m. May 29 at a site to be determined.
The East 2 District follows the same schedule. The Panthers are the No. 13 seed.
Minerva – the No. 8 seed – is set to play Buckeye Local in the quarterfinals with the winner of that game moving on to take on No. 2 seed Carrollton in the semifinals.
In the other quarterfinals, No. 5 Beaver Local is set to face No. 9 seed Claymont, while No. 4 seed Cambridge is slated to play No. 14 seed East Liverpool.
Harrison Central is the lone local team to be competing in the Division V Eastern District Tournament. The Huskies are the No. 2 seed in the East 2 District.
The quarterfinals are scheduled to be played at 5 p.m. May 19 at the higher seeded team’s field with the semifinals set for 5 p.m. May 26 at the higher seeded team’s field once again. The district final is set to take place at 5 p.m. May 28 at a site to be determined.
In the quarterfinals, No. 9 seed West Muskingum is slated to play No. 11 seed Tuscarawas Valley with the winner of that game set to take on Harrison Central in the semifinals out at Mazeroski Field in Cadiz.
In the other quarterfinals, No. 3 seed Ridgewood will play No. 13 seed Morgan while No. 6 seed Sandy Valley will play No. 7 seed St. Clairsville. The winners of those two games will move on to play each other in the semifinals.
The East 1 District follows the same schedule. There are no local teams competing in the district tournament.
In the quarterfinals, No. 8 seed Union Local will play No. 10 seed Coshocton with the winner of that game advancing to play No. 1 seed Barnesville in the semifinals.
In the other quarterfinals, No. 5 seed Martins Ferry is scheduled to face off against No. 12 seed River View, while No. 4 seed Garaway will play No. 14 seed Fairless. The winners of those two games will play in the district semifinals.
Toronto is the lone local team to be competing in the Division VI Eastern District Tournament. The Red Knights are the No. 2 seed.
The first round of the tournament is scheduled to be held at 5 p.m. Monday at the higher seeded team’s field. The quarterfinals will be held at 5 p.m. May 20 at the higher seeded team’s field. The semifinals are slated to be held at 5 p.m. May 27 at the higher seeded team’s field. The district final is set for 5 p.m. May 29 at a site to be announced.
In the first round, No. 10 seed Bridgeport will take on No. 11 seed Bellaire, No. 6 seed Caldwell will take on No. 7 seed Shenandoah and No. 8 seed Newcomerstown will take on No. 9 seed Crooksville.
In the quarterfinals, No. 4 seed Buckeye Trail will play No. 5 seed Monroe Central, No. 1 seed Hiland will play the winner of the game between the Bulldogs and the Big Reds, Toronto will face off against the winner of the game between the Redskins and the Zeps at the Knights Baseball Complex, while No. 3 seed Fort Frye will play the winner of the game between the Trojans and the Ceramics.
In the semifinals, the winner of the game between the Warriors and the Seminoles will face the winner of the game featuring the Hawks, with the winners of the games featuring the Red Knights and the Cadets.
Catholic Central is the lone local team scheduled to take part in the Division VII Eastern District Tournament. The Crusaders are the No. 8 seed.
Catholic Central will play No. 9 seed Tuscarawas Central Catholic in the lone first round game at 5 p.m. Monday up at Vaccaro Field.
The district quarterfinals are set to take place at 5 p.m. May 20 at the higher seeded team’s field. The semifinals are scheduled to be played at 5 p.m. May 26 at the higher seeded team’s field. The final is set for 5 p.m. May 28 at a site to be determined.
The winner of the game between the Crusaders and the Saints will face off against No. 1 seed Strasburg in the district quarterfinals. The winner of that game will play in the semifinals against the winner of the quarterfinal game between No. 4 seed Shadyside and No. 5 seed Conotton Valley.
In the quarterfinals, No. 3 seed River will play No. 7 seed Frontier, while No. 2 seed Bishop Rosecrans is set to face No. 6 seed Malvern. The winners of those two games will play each other in the semifinals.
