Crusaders win big for second victory

WELLSVILLE – The Catholic Central baseball team ended its losing streak in a big way on Saturday.

The Crusaders won for the second time this season and the first time in six games, breaking out with a 24-2 victory at Wellsville.

The Crusaders (2-7) got a double, two singles and four RBIs from Matty Jones, a double, single and three RBIs from Jojo Corabi, three hits and four RBIs from Michael Fabbro, two hits and three RBIs from Zach Bryan and a double, two singles and six RBIs from Joseph Vranish.

Vranish (three innings, seven strikeouts) and Tommy Symington (two strikeouts in two innings) combined for a five-inning no-hitter on the mound. Both Tigers runs were unearned.

The Crusaders are home today for the first time in more than two weeks to host Wheeling Central.

SOFTBALL

Huskies bounce back

CADIZ – After a pair of tough losses Thursday and Friday, the Harrison Central softball team got back in the win column twice on Saturday sweeping a doubleheader with Bellaire, 2-1 and 7-3.

In the first game, Mikayla Pelegreen had a complete game effort in the circle with 12 strikeouts, no walks, just two hits allowed and the run against was unearned.

Delaney Stull had two hits and Jaylin Ward drove in a run.

In game two, Pelegreen tripled and had a two-hit game, while Ward plated three runs with three hits and Stull had two knocks and an RBI.

Madalyn Johnson fanned three and walked one in a complete game win.

The Huskies visit Big Red today.

Madonna loses close game at tough Martins Ferry

MARTINS FERRY – The Madonna softball team went on the road for a big challenge at OVAC leading Martins Ferry on Saturday and dropped a close 6-4 decision to the now 17-1 Purple Riders.

The Blue Dons (12-3) got another homer and two hits and two RBIs from Madi Owens, while Peyton Conley had a double and a single and Kendal Ryan and Elaina Foresha each had an RBI.

Conley struck out five and walked two in the circle.

Madonna looks to bounce back today hosting Jefferson Christian.
