Creek stays undefeated
CALCUTTA – The Indian Creek baseball team’s undefeated start to the season has gone to nine games.
The Redskins, who were ranked No. 1 in Ohio Division III in the latest Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association poll, improved to 9-0 on the season with another convincing, 10-2 victory over Beaver Local on the road Monday.
In the victory, which gave Creek a season-sweep of the Beavers, Sylus Hyde homered, had two singles and two RBIs, Hunter Rusnak also had three hits with a double and two singles and Garrin Clark drove in two runs for Creek. Luke McVicker had two hits and an RBI as well.
On the mound, James Brothers fired a complete game, striking out eight and walking three.
Creek has a home-and-home set with fellow state ranked Buckeye 8 conference foe Harrison Central (No. 4 in Division V) Wednesday at Muth Field and Friday in Cadiz.
Huskies top Potters
EAST LIVERPOOL — Fresh off cracking the top five in the latest Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association poll, the Harrison Central baseball team topped East Liverpool on the road on Monday, 9-4, to improve to 8-1 on the season.
Colson Crothers, Gage Stoneking and Kolson Mizer each had two RBIs in the win for the Huskies. Mizer, Hunter Snyder and Lance Smith each had a double.
Zach Harbold struck out five in six innings on the mound.
The Huskies visit Indian Creek Wednesday to start and home-and-home between the state ranked foes.
Brooke pulls away from the Panthers
CONNORVILLE — After fending off Buckeye Local in a high-scoring game on Friday, the Brooke baseball team went on the road to face the Panthers on Monday and earned a season sweep with a 15-6 victory at Bill Mazeroski Field.
For Brooke (5-10-1), Andrew Murdock went 3 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI, Geno Provenzano had two hits and two RBIs, Aidan Lathem drove in three runs with a pair of hits, Aiden Provenzano tallied a double, single and three RBIs and Kamden Sperringer also doubled and drove in a run.
For the Panthers (1-7), Daniel Divjak, Blake Haught and Jordan Kovalski each had an RBI.
Brooke hosts Big Red today, while Buckeye Local visits Beaver Local on Wednesday.
SOFTBALL
Red Riders down Wheeling Central
ELM GROVE — The Weir High softball team went on the road Monday and picked up an impressive win over Wheeling Central, 5-3.
The Red Riders (9-3) got a solo homer from Lila Boilegh, two hits from Bella Weber, a double and two RBIs from Loganne Barton, a double from Zoe Spencer and two hits and an RBI from Lexi Shockley.
Eliza Utt struck out five and walked two in a complete game in the circle.
Weir High hosts Brooke today.
Red Knights out-slug Crusaders
STEUBENVILLE — The Toronto softball team ended a three-game slide and got back to .500 on the season with a 19-8 victory on the road at Catholic Central on Monday.
Jaylee Brown had a triple, double, two singles and five RBIs, JJ Rebich had a double, two singles and two RBIs, Maddie Asafailo drove in three runs, Vivian Gump had a triple, single and two RBIs, Anna Wright tallied a double and an RBI, Arianna Highsmith had a double and an RBI and Adali Mick drove in two runs for Toronto (6-6).
Central (0-10) had two hits, including a triple, and an RBI from Alexis Lathem, an RBI from Mary Fink, two RBIs from Genna Free and two RBIs from Miriam Free.
Toronto visits East Palestine today, while Central hosts Buckeye Local.
Bruins bounce back against Panthers
CONNORVILLE — After getting blanked by the Panthers on Friday, Brooke’s bats exploded in the rematch on the road Monday evening.
The Bruins scored in the top of the first inning and pulled away from there for a 13-2 victory over the Panthers.
Avery Rado had three hits and two RBIs, Emma Bober had a triple and two RBIs, Eden McKinney had a double and an RBI, Marionna Dipaolo and Avary Martino each had two RBIs and Jazmyn Wood had two hits for the Bruins (6-9). McKinney struck out nine in a complete game in the circle.
Karlie Lander and L Neilly each had a double for the Panthers (6-5), while Danika Bauknecht had an RBI.
Brooke visits Weir today, while Buckeye Local visits Catholic Central today.

BASEBALL
Edison storms back to top Ferry
RICHMOND – The Edison baseball team erased an early four-run deficit and walked-off a 5-4 win over visiting Martins Ferry on Saturday.
The Wildcats (5-2) trailed 4-0 early and 5-1 going to the bottom of the sixth, but plated four runs in the inning and then walked-it-off in the bottom of the seventh to complete the comeback.
Xander Haught had two hits and two RBIs, Evan Kimmerle and Chase Freeman each had a triple, Freeman driving in two runs and Kyle Long plating a run.
Long struck out four and did not walk a batter in five innings of relied work to earn the win on the mound.
Edison visits Weir High today.
