However, that is exactly what happened.
After a couple of scoreless innings, Indian Creek broke through in the bottom of the third inning and did not look back, pulling away for a 10-0 victory in six innings over the visiting Huskies.
The Redskins, ranked No. 1 in Ohio Division III, improve to 10-0 with the impressive the win over a Harrison Central team that is ranked No. 4 in Division V.
“Its a good win for us against a Harrison team that had been playing very well,” Indian Creek head coach Mike Cottis said. “Just about everybody contributed in some way today, it was total team effort and its good to see.

“They gave us a few extra outs and we took advantage, hit the ball when it mattered and got the runs in when we needed to.”
The Huskies (8-2) let some chances slip away, leaving runners on the second and third in the top of the third and the top of the fourth and the bases loaded in the fifth, but were unable to get a big hit off of Creek ace Sylus Hyde and ultimately made too many mistakes to keep Creek’s high-powered offense from getting going.
“Creek is a really good team,” Huskies head coach Mike Valesko said. “We knew with Sylus on the mound we would have to play really good defense and be in the zone the whole game to hang with them and we weren’t. I think we had nine walks and hit batters and you’re not going to beat these guys with more than two or three.
“I don’t think they out-hit us anything crazy. We just have to do a better job of hitting the zone. And, offensively, we had a couple chances we didn’t capitalize on. Early on I thought we were doing a good job of getting to second base, stealing bases, bunting, but just didn’t get the big hit that really gives you life and keep you in it. Credit to them, they got some big hits, especially late in the game.”
Creek scored three runs each in the third, fourth and fifth before Ian Statkey’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth with two outs brought things to an early end.

In addition to earning the win on the mound, Hyde delivered two singles and three RBIs on the day at the plate. His batterymate Hunter Rusnak drove in two runs. James Brothers and Luke McVicker also had an RBI each.
While Creek did not have an extra base hit, seven different players had hits and they drew five walks and four hit batsmen.
Hyde struck out six and walked four in 5 1/3 innings before giving way to freshman Adam Brothers, who fanned both batters he faced.
“Sylus is starting to find his groove,” Cottis said. “His pitch count got up a little there at the end so we brought in a freshman, Adam Brothers, and he shut the door on them. We have a really good mix of veterans and young guys on the pitching staff that are all doing a really good job for us.”
The teams, both also in the thick of OVAC tournament races and the battle for the Buckeye 8 title, will meet again Friday in Cadiz.

“We have a really good Beaver Local team at home (today) and we see (Creek) again at home on Friday,” Valesko said. “And, we have a doubleheader on Saturday. We have played on the road a lot so it will be nice to be playing at home. We have a couple chances to get back out there and continue to get better.”
