WVU baseball removes RHP Chase Meyer from the team

MORGANTOWN — The 23rd-ranked WVU baseball team will play the rest of the season without all-Big 12 pitcher Chase Meyer.

The 6-foot-2 pitcher from Lincolnton, N.C. was removed from the official roster Tuesday, and the school later confirmed Meyer was no longer a member of the team.

No reason was given for Meyer’s removal.

“Junior right-handed pitcher Chase Meyer is no longer with our baseball program,” WVU head coach Steve Sabins said in a released statement. “I want to thank Chase for his contributions the past three years to our team and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Meyer was named to the all-Big 12 preseason first team at the start of the season after finishing 9-2 with a 3.94 ERA as a sophomore. He entered this season ranked as the 64th-best prospect for the 2026 MLB draft, according to D1 Baseball. For his career, Meyer was 11-3 with a 5.09 ERA.

Sabins said in the preseason that Meyer’s availability was going to be limited in the early part of the season, as the right-hander was still recovering from a broken finger he suffered last November.

Meyer has appeared in two games for the Mountaineers (8-2) this season, both relief appearances. He’s pitched 3 1/3 innings this season and allowed one run, while striking out five.

The last time he pitched was against Liberty on Feb.21.
