Madonna stays undefeated

BRIDGEPORT — Another day, another win for the Madonna softball team.

The Blue Dons won for a third time in as many days on Thursday evening, going on the road and blanking the Bridgeport Bulldogs 9-0.

The victory improves the Dons to 5-0 on the season.

Madi Owens had a huge game for Madonna, finishing 4 for 4 with two doubles, a triple and three RBIs.

Kendal Ryan had a pair of hits and Peyton Conley, Rylee Birkhimer, Kaleigh Gamble and Taylor Birkhimer each drove in a run as the Dons out-hit the Dogs 12-3.

Ryan went the distance in the circle, striking out eight and walking just one in tossing a shutout.

Madonna travels to Valley for a doubleheader on Saturday.

Brooke tops Linsly

WHEELING — The Brooke softball team earned a 10-4 victory on the road at Linsly on Thursday for their second victory of the young season.

Eden McKinney had a double, homer and three RBIs, Emma Teller had three hits, including a double and a homer, and three RBIs, Avery Rado had a double and single and Avary Martino drove in two runs with two hits for the Bruins.

McKinney struck out four and walked two in a complete game effort in the circle.

Brooke goes to East Liverpool on Monday.

Toronto blanks Lisbon

TORONTO — The Toronto softball team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 10-0 blanking of visiting Lisbon on Thursday at home.

The Red Knights plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth to enact the mercy rule and bring things to an early halt.

Jaylee Brown had a triple, double and single and drove in three runs, Arianna Highmsmith had three singles an three RBIs, Gracie Ruberto had two hits and an RBI and JJ Rebich and Lily Sapp both doubled and singled and drove in a run.

Maddie Asafailo struck out four in earning the win in the circle.

Toronto hots Wellsville today.

JM edges Big Red

GLEN DALE — The Big Red softball team suffered its first setback of the season Thursday, a 3-2 loss in a close battle at John Marshall.

Sagan Smarrella had a double and Isabella Cadile drove in a pair of runs for Big Red (2-1).

Cadile struck out six and walked four in another complete game effort for Steubenville in the circle.

Big Red took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, but JM got a run each in the bottom of the second and fourth, then scored the go-ahead run in the sixth.

Big Red takes on Canfield at home on Monday.

BASEBALL

Red Riders top Cee-Bees

WEIRTON — The Weir High baseball team topped Clay-Battelle on Thursday at home in a high-scoring contest, 17-8.

The Red Riders are now 3-1 on the season.

Matt Geer had a triple, single and an RBI, Kason Lash doubled, singled and drove in two runs, Nick DiMatteis doubled, singled and drove in three runs, Niko Glass had three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs and Aleks Zanieski plated a pair of runs for Weir High.

Liam Willamson struck out five in three innings of work, while Grant Upright and Jonathan Horstman combined to fan five more.
