Big Red’s McShan a finalist for Ohio Ms. Basketball

COLUMBUS — Her career in Crimson and Black may have ended, but the accolades keep coming in for Big Red standout senior Nylah McShan.
One day after being named the Division III, East District girls basketball Player of the Year by the Ohio Prep Sports Media Assocciation, it was announced that McShan is a finalist for the prestigous Ohio Ms. Basketball award, given to the top player in the state in any division as voted by a panel of the OPSMA members.
McShan was a four-year letter winner for Steubenville, helping Big Red to a winning record and district tournament appearances in all four seasons.
She finishes her career at Big Red with more than 1,500 career points, was the Division III East District Player of the Year each of the last two seasons, had more than 700 career rebounds and more than 150 career assists.
This season, she led Big Red in scoring (20.4), rebounds (10.3) and steals (3.6) and was second on the team in assists (2.6).
She was also the District 5 Coaches Association Player of the Year this season and helped Big Red set a school record for wins.
For her career, she nearly averaged a double-double with a career average of 19.6 points and 9.8 rebounds per game over her four years.
OPSMA members will vote on the award through Monday using a system similar to the Heisman process in college football.
Other finalists for the award are Karsyn Erford of Ottawa-Glandorf; Tatiana Mason of Lyndhurst Brush; Evelyn McKnight of Copley; Sydney Mobley of Sunbury Big Walnut; Kayla Thornton of Fairmont; and Whitney Safford of Lewis Center Olentangy.
The winner will be announced on March 12.
